Id gladly spend 2k on a respray. If your going to get it done. Get it done properly.
I think on mates rates ricky would charge me about 1.5 - 1.7 for my corsa. And i know his work is the shit. Just like if i was going to lemass id gladly pay 2k for a respray as i know his work and again. Its the shit
People round here do them for 800. There shite. Full of orange peel and drips.

The top end places around here, charge around £100 a panel. And thats for top notch work. There is cheaper places but they tend to not care so much. Like painting bumpers on cars with the number plate still on etc.

90 a panel is average so includes for example the roof, anyone saying they will spray a roof for 90 it will 100% be shit if you have any sort of high standards. Iv a mate with an impreza gets all his stuff done cheap and swears its an amazing finish, but its not its terrible.

Ive seen roofs painted for £100 and the finish is nigh on perfect tbh.
Maybe these places aren't greedy and make the money from word of mouth. Do a good job and not charge the earth and you are going to get alot more work.
Also, things like getting a roof painted say black for £90-£100 could still be decent. Its a generic colour, and most likely good spray shops will have extra paint lying around. So really, the cost is only in the labour, sort of.

If I charged £100 a panel I would never break even. Let alone make money.
And the thing about having paint lying around, I would love to be able to use the wrong colour on people's cars, that would be great

The paint lying around comment was in relation to people who have the desire to have the roof painted black on say a red car. The in thing of last year.

my dads mate charged someone i know 250 quid for a rear/1 side respray.
he said it was a good job.
to say i was unimpressed when i saw it in the metal is an understatement 
he hadn't even bothered taking the sills off so it was peeling after a week 
i didn't say anything though as he was selling it.

Why can other places do it so much cheaper and make money tom? Your saying you would make a loss at £90quid a panel? What are they doing that's different? Just less prep time?
This isn't a dig btw, genuine question. As per my above comments I have no quarms paying good money for a respray etc if needed

yes, at first glance they both look the same, but one will mostly likely go all flaky and fall to bits after a month.

It could be down to rent cost. If someone has gpt a bargain on their shop then they can charge less. The problem with most business is that to make money they charge more instead of lowering their overheads.

Cheap places will be leaving parts in place. Cheap materials and not working to a high standard.
Example of this I had a two year old e90 in that had been repaired previously, it was first noted that the door swage line was wobbly. On closer inspection the whole side was full of filler and nothing had been removed. Still had masking tape over the down lights in the handles 
All rubbers were painted over and filler not just paint was flaking from every panel gap.

I personally think its all down to the company that's doing the work. There's only 2 ways of painting a car no matter what the price is, the right way and the wrong way. If someone painted my car for say £2k and I went to another place for a quote and they wanted £500 less for the exact same job I'd expect the workmanship to be just as good as each other. Some places are just more expensive than others.

There's loads of variables eck, quality of paint being one, and shit quality paint painted in the right way.is not a good job, sometimes you won't even know, a mate had his astra full respray on the cheap tbf finish looked very good yet 3/4 years down the line it started flaking off

3 years is a very long time. What would cause it to flake off after so long, rather than say, 3 months down the line.
Could it possibly be down to poor maintenance??
