Iirc it had nothing to do with passenger numbers or ticket price, you simply cannot continue to fly a plane if there are no spare parts for it. Virgin knew that, so did BA.
THIS
Wasn't lack of, perhaps cost of creating spare parts but BA and Air France both stated it was lack of passengers and cost of maintenance that caused them to withdraw the Concorde.
And i've never read or watched anything that stated otherwise.
Ian - Didn't realise about the airframe limit.
Hammer - i wasn't assuming anything, merely giving my ideas. Why do you think BA wouldn't sell it's fleet to Virgin?

There where no spare parts, as the second "wave" of regeneration was due for manufacturing as i understood it. This would have cost a pretty large sum of money. The ones in existence had either been used or reached their shelf life and had to be renewed.
The cost to re develop and reproduce this, alongside the safety concerns after ironically the most safe aircraft in the world was brought down by a DC10 lead to them closing the programme.
Thats what i was told by someone who worked on the development of the planes originalyl and is now a historian for the restoration and conservation of them.

There's probably a mirage of reasons but the main one, no matter in what form, would have been money.

That and Virgin never actually making a formal offer to buy them.
