Have a gander on MyDigitalLife, i know there are a handful of keys that have been posted but there might be another method of activating it.
Chris - Will make it 100x better if you can

Few comparisons -
http://www.techspot.com/review/561-windows8-vs-windows7/
http://www.zdnet.com/windows-8-vs-windows-7-benchmarked-7000002671/
Apart from bootup/shutdown times, there doesn't appear to much difference between Win 8 and Win 7.

I've never understood why people wank over boot times, there was a thread a few years ago on a forum I've forgot the name of but people were boasting that they'd shaved 1-2 seconds off their previous fastest cold boot. Must have had a prolapse when SSD's first came affordable.
Anyway, I want to try this and been meaning to format my laptop, will try it as soon as its on MSDNAA

My windows 8 install boots considerably quicker than my 7 install, 7 has considerably more installed though.

SSD then?
Would agree with OSX being better from sleep, certainly that's the case on my Dell; boot times are both about the same however.
noshua - No different to clock speeds, people cream themselves over an extra MHz or two and that'll make sod all notable difference.

So the boot time and speed is a defrost improvement on win7. The metro interface hasn't pissed me off yet but there is no clear cut way to use it, do you use the desktop or the metro interface?
The main booboo is the lack of an accessible shutdown button. Wtf?

Can either log off from the user menu or WIN+C > Settings > Shutdown/Log Off/Restart. I'm sure you can access it using one of the right/left menu, can't fully remember though as i got rid of Win 8 ages ago.
Edit - ALT+F4

This did make me laugh. When I first installed it on a test system at work i asked a few people to come and shut it down. Only one out of 5 did it quickly. All the others went round in circles trying to find it.
Its a pretty epic UI design fail that people can't work out how to shut it down.
Its the first OS where its not just a mouse click away

That's all well and good for us elite Dom, Im thinking of the people who can't do it any other way than start > shutdown

They've already mentioned there would be a handful of codecs that wouldn't be supported due to licensing. Not much of a biggy though, use a codec-pack or VLC.
