Theres plenty with 75 - 100k around, so that's obviously not correct. Why do they hit 60k and boom, they're fucked?
If they're looked after, should be alright...?

Whittie you should buy my Astra IMO. I will give you a good price as it needs a new turbo. Warren G has quoted me around £650 for that.

Dammit. I'm going to see if I can shift it while it needs a new turbo. I don't want to have to shell out to fix it only to immediately sell it.

Brother works for Mazda and since working there both our opinions of them have changed. Not as bad as people make out and the only real hardship is the fuel consumption. RWD great chasis and enough poke for pennies.
Been out on a drift circuit in one as a passenger and the car seems like a lot of fun. I can see them getting quite popular as track toys soon.

Buy a dead one and stick a second hand, running engine in it. Mega bargain then.

My mate owned one for 3 weeks, hated every minute of it.
Gave me a good shot the last night he had it, felt like you had to boot its cunt in to get it to go.

I would be looking at some sort of diesel for £2500, Leon, Golf, Megane, 206 etc.
From a rear wheel drive fairly quick sports car you are suggesting a boring as fuck diesel hatch, i couldnt think of a worse way to spend 2.5k, every post of yours seems to be moronic.

Mate is a salesman at Mazda and doesn't have a good word to say about one.
One went through my local auction last month, 05 plate, same color as the one posted, 40k, full Mazda history. Sold for £1,550

"My runabout is mainly used for throwing shit in, and taking to the tip, use it over the van because you got to have a permit otherwise!
Anyway, it may not be as practical but couldn't believe how cheap this was, i remember looking at them ages ago in a thread on here."
I didn't realise RX8 were the ultimate run around to throw crap in and taking to the tip, surprised more pikeys don't use them.
When I think of practical run around for my next car I shall give you a bell.
And if they are fairly quick is a matter of opinion and spec.

The road tax is also pretty high, a guy I work with is selling his, it's very low miles in the 30's I think.

I think an rx8 is going to be quicker than a 206 diesel regardless of opinion or spec.

I must have missed the bit where the OP asked for a quick car, sorry.
I never said anything about comparing speed of a diesel and the Rx8 either.
The "Entry" model will do 0-60 in 7 seconds, 26mpg at best and £450 a year to tax, if OP can afford it all then go for it, will be fun whilst it lasts.

Too many horror stories..
Yeah they have a few issues, but doesnt every car?
- Oil use is very minimal as said a 1lt to every 4k...
- Coil Packs are a common failure, but easy enough to change
- thirsty 20mpg is average..
- Cat's can break up, but de-cat it and ull see monster flames
Thats about all in my experiance... the 9k rev limit is addictive the handling and comfort are sweet aswell...
Oh and if you do buy one, make sure you have a full service history and that the re-calls have been done, the most important one is the oil cooler lines.
As for the Oil only use Dexelia Ultra from Mazda only I believe

Fella was out to look at my Mini recently because he had just sold an RX8 with around 70k for around £1600. He says his was making a bad tapping noise and normally the engine needs rebuilt around 60-70k. He also agreed with some points that have already been mentioned, oil consumption, mpg etc.
In saying that though he was a timewasting fucker and may not be the most reliable source.
