But most of them not

Knowledge is fine, even if its prsented in a negative manner, the problem is its too full of shit for example, make a post asking what tyres are decent, you get replies "do trackdays"

wtf has that got to do with asking for advice about tyres?

A bit like when someone asks for advice about Mini forums and it descends into another thread about a non racing race spec Puma.

yes exactly that, people picking up on a couple of words and arguing the toss

the puma bit wasnt even the main bit of my post, just a random after thought, other idiots picked up on it questioned it and highlighted turning it into a main debate, which then lead me to defend my corner (as per usual)

The main content of my post was about...minis!

Surely the thermostat would compensate for a more efficient coolant though? Meaning the engine temperature would remain unaffected?

It may get to a point where the thermostat is open to allow the coolant through but the coolant in the radiator isn't being cooled to a low enough temp to cool the engine properly meaning the temp is still rising possibly.

I'm no genius and thats the best as I can explain it sorry.

its designed to be used in vintage/old cars where an electric fan isn't or can't be fitted (my 1949 Alvis doesn't have one for originality purposes) so the original fan is on the water pump, driven by a belt from the crankshaft so.....

when an old car is stuck in traffic the engine is only at tick over, so the fan is not going fast enough to pull adequate air through the radiator to keep the engine cool and they start to boil up rather quickly......

so vintage car owners have the option of fitting an electric fan and losing originality or using waterless coolant.

hope this has cleared it up a bit

Its quite amusing the way everyone has assumed that it makes the engine run cooler with no actual mention of this by the original poster!

As said the thermostat would still open at its specified temp, the engine would still run at around the same temp..

Fair enough on the fuel economy bit - if the fluid expands less at operating temp than water mixed coolants then happy days..

Agree with not possibly seeing benefits on your everyday runaround - clearly however there are benefits on larger stuff

Where are the gains? Less friction on the water pump?

I can see that you might want a large margin on stuff which is at risk of overheating, but as above, I can't see gains on my normal day to day car for example.

That's not me being negative, that's me having a grasp of how an engine works asking how a change to the cooling system affects a car which isn't about to overheat.

Which liners? Bores? Because that is slightly misleading.

Just tried to find some reviews on the stuff and can't seem to find anything bad about it, I may try draining my cooling system on the van and putting it in for next years track days. Cos van likes to run quite warm after long periods on tracks that push engines hard, found donny go track quite tough on engine temps,

I also saw it on wheeler dealers.

If you can catch the fluid when your changing parts you can just filter and re-use.

Jas, more info on the special price as I'm after some for the old MG B
