Tyres do make a break a performance? A Corsa on Wanlis and a Corsa on R888's is like the difference between night and day.
What a silly statement

they may fade graham but as i said, i'm not an elite race car track driver and i touched my brakes about 3 times in 10 miles of driving home from work today.
they were fine, funnily enough.

nope. i just don't want people coming in here and getting the wrong idea, thinking they need to put ebc red stuff pads on their 1.0 12v corsa's because 'shit cheap shit' pagid pads are dangerous and worthless.

If you drive fast - they are dangerous because they won't work

did you consistently do that ben or just once, theres a difference when your driving fast for prolonged period of times.
i have had standard brakes on my car when i got it and tbh they were shocking, nearly killed myself from a very high speed, never had any problems since i changed to performance or fast road pads (if theres a difference)

i did it once. i just said it to contradict grahams sweeping statement.
i have some lovely country roads near me and regularly go for a blast down there and the brakes are fine also.
i agree for a mixture of track and road driving, you're best off with proper fast road pads.
but for commuting to work 5 days a week and the occasional nutcase driving at the weekend, oem/oem quality pads are fine.

Its usually when there are compromises - like when a pad needs to warm up before being useful.
I've had brake fade on my Astra a few times.

Standard brake pads - shit cheap shit that fades after 3 hard presses of the pedal (like Bens pagids)
I stand by my comment...
I'm not saying that standard brake pads aren't fine for 90% of road users, they are perfect as the brakes aren't under any real strain for a continuous time. But they are what they are, cheap pads and you really can't keep defending them saying they're fine for driving fast
Lets brake from 130 several times and see who keeps stopping in the same spot time and time again

If you've ever got into a situation on the road where perfectly functional standard brakes were not enough then that is 100% the driver at fault.

Totally agree, I used to have Ferodo DS2500s at about £110 a pop.
I don't notice any difference between them and my Mintex £27 pads.
I like to drive fast road on the road.

Its all winning.
you could write some good books.
I only use tesco momentum (99) because the car smokes a lot of normal unleaded. Unsure why, it's white smoke.
Disappears when running 99.

Fast road in suspension terms is keeping a
Little more give in the system to deal with UK roads
I run polybushes in my alignment arms instead of rose joints as they'd wear quicker and transfer too much NVH.
Fast road pads as has been said will work from cold. I track pad will not as thegsi can vouch for on his evo!

you really do have a huge chip on your shoulder mate - it seems anyone who has the ability to spend money on things you deem not appropriate think they are looking down on you
Like watches, new cars, super unleaded, brakes, houses,

Who actually gives a fuck??
Drive as fast as you want, when a component starts to fail because of the extra work your asking it to do change it to something that will cope.
Edit:
I use vpower 99 because i get 2ft flames pouring out the back... And we all know how cool that is.
