Cheers Gav, I'm thinking of losing the WRX and the Type UK from the back, and just swapping the STI badge for the pink original one.

I'd love one of these but fuel costs would cripple me!

plates are a big improvement
loose all the badges inc the STI one on the grill, theres a genuine weight saving to be had the rears already busy enough with the spoiler. if anything go for hawker rear lights
add coilovers and outside is perfect, then you can concentrate on under the hood

Couple of goodies hopefully on the way for the weekend:
1) Front Speaker upgrade, nothing special just some 5.25inch pioneer jobbies. I'm no ICE fiend but the standard speakers are horrible. I should probably pick up some sound deadening to stuff the doors with while I'm at it - so GTFO with your weight saving Wrighty
2) Set of clocks from a JDM STi
These have a red backlight instead of the poverty spec green that the UK spec cars get, and they also have a cool DEFI style "sweep" motion when you start the car up.
I'm looking to get some gauges bought and fitted early next year, and the popular choices all seem to be red backlit so getting the dials to match is an important prerequisite!
Problem is, the clocks I've bought have got 81k miles on them and my car has only done 38k. I'm on the search for somebody local who can legitimately change the clocks on the JDM cluster, apparently it's a removable chip on the back of the cluster which needs plugging into a PC/Laptop with an adaptor and then reprogramming with some software... hoping it won't cost me too much

My new toy salvaged from a 2003 JDM Import. They need a bit of work before I can install them though.
Taking them to Manchester tomorrow to have a chap change the milage from 81k to 38k and also to wire a KPH->MPH convertor into the loom.

Legit! Honest!
The sweep is ace, but the main reason for the swap is red lighting... it'll all make sense once I've got some gauges on the centre console

I'm trying, I'm nailing all the smaller cheap jobs thick and fast so I know I'll end up with just the big bucks changes and then I'll get bored
Still got plenty to think about next year, coilovers, gauges, remap, etc.

I went over to Manchester on Saturday morning with my missus riding shotgun, as I'd promised her a walk around the Trafford Centre while we were at it!
I'd been given the details for Scott @ V12 Tuning from a guy on ScoobyNet and after speaking with him on the phone he sounded confident he could reconfigure the mileage on my JDM clocks and maybe fit the KPH-MPH convertor which I got included.
The convertor was basically a box with a bundle of unlabelled wires, it had been ripped out of a JDM import which had been written off (I think) so no real care to label it up or provide instructions
I arrived at Scotts unit at 11am and he turned up shortly after. Scott took no time at all taking a microchip off of the back of the old dials and took a hexadecimal code which represented the correct mileage from it. He then hooked his laptop upto the chip on the JDM dials and replaced the hex code on there with the correct one, resoldered the chip - job done!
Next job was the convertor, Scott was a pretty skilled auto electrician from what I could gather and he quite quickly decided what wire did what - and then proceeded by diving into the car loom with some snips I shit myself and had to go sit with my Missus as he ripped the loom apart
A few minutes, and a few neat solder jobs later (used bullet connector thingies so I can reattach some UK clocks at any point) he had the convertor hooked up too!
I took the car for a quick blast around the industrial estate and sure enough it seemed to be measuring my speed in MPH, job done (I thorougly tested both this and the mileage count using motorway signs on the way home).
I was really impressed with Scott and his skills with the electrics, and I'd recommend him to anybody who wanted an alarm fitting or similar job. He does Audi/VW remaps as his main trade, so if anyone is after one in the Manchester area - look up V12 Tuning
Anyway, before:
UK STi Dials with blue background. Needles glow red, and the numbers glow a faint green (same as the LCD clock on the centre console).
After:
We have a problem! The red clashes with the blue on my head unit
...but never fear!
Much better
I'll be on the look out next year for some gauges to replace the green LCD clock, which of course must have a red backlighting
When driving around the Trafford Centre carpark afterwards I think I experience the first of the dreaded "rear shock clunking". It's a bit weird as it doesn't knock or creak over bumps - but with very slow manueavers the rear shocks seem to clunk rather than compress/extend smoothly.
I don't think it's a major drama for now, but it moves coilovers to front of the list for 2013 jobs.
On saturday night we went for a meal, and we still had a boot full of shopping plus one passenger in the car - and my rear mudflaps scraped all over the place I'm not just talking speed bumps, I'm talking on a straight road doing the speed limit.
Because of that, they need either removing or trimming down about an inch.
On sunday morning I decided it was time to tackle the front speaker replacements, so I braved the wind and slight rain to take a doorcard off and see what things looked like. I spotted straight away that the speaker adaptors I got didn't match the holes in the door skin - so I popped to Argos to extend my ever growing tool collection with another quality product.
I also popped to Halfords for sound deadening... but they only had one roll of it.
I got back home just in time to meet Simon_16v, his missus is local and we'd intended to meet up previously when I had the CTR - just never happened.
After letting my drill charge up, we went backoutside and "modified" my door skin. I then applied enough sound deadening around the mounting points for the speaker so the adaptor wasn't touching bare metal. I'll do the rest of the door skins at a later date when I've got more material.
I sucked at photo's doing this job, Simon's fault for distracting me!
I took Simon out for a quick spin once the first door was put back together and I think he now wants an Impreza I did manage to replicate the slow moving rear shock clunk - so it's definately not my imagination.
Second door was done much quicker (after a cuppa to warm up) and once again I performed my signature move of having a screw left over at the end of the job. I don't understand how this keeps happening to me, but until I learn to use all my screws - I'll avoid jobs such as suspension changes and intercooler upgrades
I used a bit left over sound deadening to try and mute a rattle in my passenger A Pillar. There's two wires running up it, one for the alarm sensor and one for the aerial - so both of these are now pinned down with sound deadening and masking tape.
I then decided to do some before and after pictures of the mudflaps to let CS decide whether I should remove them, or trim them down. This plan all fell apart when the bolts just span around in their holes - and I couldn't get access with the wheels on to fix it, so this is now a job for next week.
After Simon left, I sat in the car for 15mins or so and tweaked the settings on the headunit - and I'm actually quite impressed, definately worth the £30 I spent on the speakers I'll come back to the sound deadening at later stage, when the weather is warmer

having screws and bolts left over is my trick too, did it when rebuilding my beetle, surprised it managed to drive to monaco with its new owner haha
