Chicken and egg situation really, as the better the kit, the more enjoyable.
Go mid range then upgrade as and when required
Or start and buy nearer the spring, as riding in better weather is always nicer and more enjoyable. Come winter you won't give a fuck then will need better winter stuff and you won't hesitate to buy.
You'll also be buffting in no time.

I went mid range with my kit when I started out a few years ago. As I realised I was really into it, I bought better stuff as and when I needed it.

Yeah, best thing to do is get a relationship with a LBS - local bike shop - they'll help you out no end and then you might be able to go out on organised rides etc, if you want to get into it proper.
What bicycle you riding?
P.S. Madison is good because it is a large distributors brand (www.madison.co.uk), meaning they don't have any extra overheads etc unlike proper brands.

Got some muddy fox mtb which I'm pretty sure I've had before I started driving, shes in good nick.
Funny enough my LBS is owned/ran by a family friend (kinda) so hes been quite helpful apart from trying to explain why £90 on a light is alright

£90 is cheap depending on what you want a light for.
You could get a decent front and rear set, be seen and see with for £90.
tbh rear lights are neither here nor there, as long as they work, are bright and can be seen by the car e.g. not hidden by a low jacket, saddle bag etc.
Front light is where the money is, and basically the more you spend, the more you will be seen.
Modern LED lights, providing you spend above £15 will get you seen.

2000 lumens is about as much as anyone needs, but you're really paying for the internal battery technology on this.
I have 2000 lumens costing about £140 (from One23) but it has an external battery pack.

Noice willay, noice
3/4 length bip shorts are proper good. I've got some Endura MT500's and they're superb. Particularly important in the colder months to protect your knees. I ride in them all year round. Don't bother with full length trousers.
I do wear baggy shorts over the top though

ITS SO FUCKING COLD
Today I'm in my bib, two t-shirts (just normal t-shirts), gloves, thermal socks, and my tron jacket. But I had a cold sweat on the go this morning on the mother of all hills, what am I doing wrong apart from being a total newbie faggot?

Pretty normal to hyperventilate in the cold as your body warms up so quick.
Take things slowly when you start your ride although difficult to warm up and down properly over just 6miles.
The main problem you'll find is that standard cotton t-shirts don't wick the sweat and moisture away from your body.
Invest in a merino wool or decent base layer which will help tenfold! Merino wool also doesn't hold smell like synthetic tops.

Willay joining the biking bandwagon! Love it.
I cycle from Folkestone to Ashford to work and back and to begin with i was fucking dying.
After a few weeks it becomes easy and find you can get faster and faster.
I prefer riding to driving!
