Yes if the phone is constantly polling for signal it will affect the battery life.

It's now on 47%....!
Jj a typical weekday...
BBC News
Send 4-10 emails with invoices through an invoice app.
5-20 texts a day
5-20 whatsapp messages per day
2-3 hours on the phone speaking
8-12 emails a day
10 mins looking at social media like twit / fb
10 mins playing on pointless games whilst pooing
I wouldn't say im asking much? but its now on 47% and its only half 10.
Screen brightness is quarter, all apps are shut, wifi is always on, bluetooth is never on as I cant get it to work, alarm is on.
Maybe Sam has got onto something with the lack of signal, I have no signal in my office, usually 1-2 bars, and see it sometimes say No Service, so it must be looking constantly for it?
Weekend, my phone lasts all weekend, as I dont use it much.

I assume that you have good signal at home, hence why you get more battery life?
If you have a spare iPhone, take it to work with you and set it to airplane mode, I bet it uses fuck all battery life during your day at work!

But that's because none of the radios will be on which are the second biggest battery killer to the screen.
I'd get a PAYG sim on another network to try, ask your colleagues which networks have good signal there.
At the end of the day though, with your useage, any 'smartphone' isn't going to great.

So, 4 hours usage and its dead. Brill! Clearly to do with the signal, as its constantly changing from No Service, to 1 / 2 bars.

Whittie - This on a new iphone?
See if you can borrow a blackberry though and give it a whirl as they've always been good on battery.

Yes, but you need a handbag to carry it in.

Brand new whenever it came out. Will try a blackberry and see how I get on!
Shame Sim Sharing isn't active in the UK, looks like Lemko have all the patents but one to do it... http://www.google.com/patents/US6141564

My iPad lasts a week, the battery alone is bigger than most phones.

HTC One S isn't too bad in all seriousness. Make sure it is one of the newest releases though, so it doesn't have the screen helicopter issue thingemybob when on 2G.

Definitely an issue to do with Signal IMO
My iPhone 5 is also a bit shit for Battery when I'm home. It's routinely searching for network/stronger reception...
When I'm abroad, like now, and only use Airplane Mode and WiFi on, it hardly uses anything - I can use it as an iPod at lunch for over 1hr, play games etc, and then use it in the evening for iMessage/Whatsapp with missus and friends for 3-4hrs, bit of FB, bit of browsing etc and only see it drop to around 60% battery from full.

My Desire battery life is woeful when there is no signal, as said, constantly trying to find one destroys the battery, I've had a signal all day today and with no usage it's down to 92%, if I have no signal (so no usage either) after 9 hours it will be at 50% just being 'turned on'

I have a HTC One S. When driving down to London every couple of weeks, having 3G on kills the battery. Turn it off, lasts the full day.
I will use for a couple of hours during the day talking to who ever wants to chat on the long drive.

5 is decent for battery in my experience, in fact probably the only thing I like in the 5 over my 4S.

HTC One S just upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 with Sense 4+. 18 minutes on battery at 100%. Now on 89%. Power save mode on too. That's almost constant use of Facebook, Twitter and browser.

Alex, turn your GPS off. It will vastly improve battery life. If I use GPS on my 4S the battery dies within an hours usage. I want to get rid of my 4S and get a Note2. Ok they are huge but its so easy to actually text and do other stuff compared to the 4S. Its not all that big once you get used to it tbh
