They are aren't a bloody Discovery! They are about as high as a Zafira. They don't roll that much and of course wider tyres is going to make any car handle better! Have you actually driven one? No? Then be quiet untill you can prove otherwise.

Have I driven one... NO

I've driven 2.

They were both mundane medium sized 4x4's.

Also - simply firing on a set of wide wheels wont make any car handle well.

Should you put some 265/40/17's on the front of an Elise?

I'm not really sure why you are so bent out of shape with me to be honest I thought i was fairly accurate in my description of its handling. Better than some, but not 'good'

I'd use some thing like an Exige/Elise, GT86, ITR to describe 'good'

I have to say, having owned a disco3 and driven several Freelander 1, 1.5 and 2s; I'd choose a Disco over any Freelander for comfort , motorway bashing, handling, offroad and onroad. I can't see why, even on price, why you'd choose a Freelander over a Disco plus the boots are rubbish

So wider tyres make no diffence to handling eh? So I was really wasting my money on bigger boots for My Cally's Skylines etc for going around corners quicker. Damn I should have saved my money and put 155's on them all! Why do all manufacturers put wider tyres on their performance models and why do boy racers put wider tyres on their car, why do the tuning industry sell so many wider wheel and tyre packages? I cannot believe that you are completey ignoring the laws of physics as regards to wider tyres gripping a corner better than a narrower one. Frelander of no Freelander. I can't believe i'm having to justify wider tyres (plus lower sidewall) handling better than a narro tall one
As for choosing a Freelander over a discovery, why not? I don't need such a big thing. The Freelander has good economy and a enough space for a family of 4. Handling or no handling they are fine for what I need as an everyday car.

My family have had a few discos and freelanders over the years which are used for everything from towing/light off roading through to trips to the continent.

In my experience anyone who says freelanders are shit dosnt know what they are talking about (its usually people that drive sheddy 1k discos who say this anyway) they are good value and will do everything that most people need them too.

Yes the disco does everything better, but they are more expensive to buy and maintain.

K 5ive.

Do some reaserch before going off on one for no reason.

By simply increasing the tyres width you are not PHYSICALLY increasing the grip. The contact patch just changes shape

I'm not arguing with you about this though... so not really sure why you're going on about it

I'm saying a Freelander with wider lowprofile road tyres isnt a great handling car. I'm 99% sure thats a fact. Or did the suspension suddenly imporve, and the car lose 200kg, and lower its COG?

PS - What on earth is a Cally's Skyline?

My Dads on his 2nd Freelander. Both been brand new. They are capable off road, will do far more than most people will ever need them to do.

K 5ive don't listen to the haters. They wouldn't enter them in rallies if they didn't handle well.

Just jealous imo.

yup, suppose rallying them has nothing to do with their compliant suspension, 4x4 system, and good ground clearance

Some folk think my daily hack handles well.... it has wide 265 section tyres. It handles like a fucking sofa! It pitches and leans through corners.

This argument is usually about impreza's and evo's but a fucking freelander?! My mate's one rolls like a motherfucker in the corners, but I'll tell him to put countach wheels on it to improve the handling.

I've got a T plate Discovery 2 with 250k miles on it, leaks like a sieve and is woefully slow but I'd recommend one to anyone. Although being quite large it doesn't take long to get used to.
