I'd rather them be wearing trackie bottoms than something even remotely likely to cause damage to the paint

comparing peoples clothes for the job, a new low.

do you take your car to a mechanic and look him up and down before deciding whether he is upto the job? I genuinely find this funny.

Yep. Different scenario but same applies.

There's a garage round here, guy looks and mong and dresses like one, turns out his work is terrible. There's also a guy, unit is always really tidy, nicely stickered up van, always looks smart and his work is second to none.

Not saying it applies in all cases (such as this) but in general.

could not disagree more. I used to work in an engineering company and locally we had to deal with fabricators and welders and the absolute top ones would look like heroin addicts if they were walking down the road.

a clean overall does not mean good work. I think that applies across the board, the fact you would turn someone down because of their clothes when they could be ten times better for a job just makes no sense

I wouldn't write them off purely on that basis (my first post was a slight exageration incase you didn't pick up on that) but it would go some way in my assesment of whether to use their services or not (along with other things such as reputation, quality of workmanship), regardless of their profession.

at this thread.

Any good detailer would make sure his clothes don't rub against the car, so it really shouldn't matter what they wear

Going to tell tesco not to bother supplying their employees with uniform. They can wear dirty pants and a string vest and still serve customers fine.

Will save the company a fortune.
