My insurance company think i have a K&N anyway which in there eyes is probably worse than a drilled air box

It sounds more beefy now, not as loud as the K&N but it still sounds decent enough. Found the K&N too loud at times. Plus i have no flat spots anymore when accelerating Changing gear and flooring it is great, it picks up straight away

Did u get rid of the pipe inside the air box adam? Might do that.

Oh yeh and i'm not using the standard air feed pipe either. Just got drilled holes and the hole where the air feed pipe used to attach to the box. I'm well impressed with this, i cant believe i wasted £70 on a K&N.

On the Fiestas I had and some Nissans Before the air box uses a resonator, on the Fiestas Zetec S its a short pipe about 3 inches long which attached to the front of the airbox, removing it creates a healthy extra boom to the acceleration noise, and it made the car more responsive. A K&N 57i type (and this seems to be common on many cars) just made the car flat spot and slower. Probably as the engine sucks in too much hot air.

In revs they Reviewed induction kits for saxos a few years back and the std drilled airbox with panel filter made more power.
Its the way to go for cost effectiveness.

Remembering that the factory setups are often set up for quietness, so at the expense of a bit of noise you can get a bit more power.

Just drill where u think the air will be able to get through easiest. Do not drill any holes on the side facing the engine though for obvious reasons. Drill UNDER where the panel sits. Simple really mate. I drilled on the side facing the wing, bottom of the box, and some on the front of the box where the standard air feed is.

So far my fuel consumption is ok even though i've been booting my car about quite a bit. If anything so far i'd say its better as its wasting less energy trying to combust an abundance of air, hot air at that!!

I cannot stress enough how much better it has made the initial pick up when u find the bite and accelerate. Its massivly improved over my old K&N cone. The noise is still there too, definately doesnt sound standard.

I have drilled mine about 3 months ago and have put a Piper X panel filter in and its sounds and moves better. I got piper X after seeing that it performs better than Ram air & K&N as per TOTAL VAUXHALL MAGAZINE, when they tested them out out.
