Corsa nut in 'look at this car im not going to buy thread'
Keep the skoda - surely the cars you are looking at will only save you 'pennys' in the style of driving you are doing?

I went from a 270bhp REVO'd TT, to a FN2 CTR and love it.
Okay it's no where near as fast in a straight line, but it carries much more speed through corners, and is so much fun to drive.
To the people that say it's gutless below VTEC, i thought that too, as i was used to putting my foot down in whatever gear and letting the torque pull me along. But once you get used to the engine, and use the right gear, it's not gutless at all.

These look a bit plus the sport models are out my budget.
Considering getting a cheap car and doing my bike test now. That way I get the best of both worlds.

I think it's the way it delivers the performance that I don't like my RB5 was probably slower but the drama in the way it delivers the power is what I like! The VRS is marginally better on fuel around town, like 10-15 miles more to £20 to put it in perspective but on the motorway it will do 35 mpg driven sensibly. The Scooby would do 18-20 no matter what.

The way i look at it is, if i'm going for it i'll be taking it to the redline, and when i change up the revs will drop down back into VTEC. So there is no change in power delivery.
The only difference is the first gear you put your foot down in, it will be progressive and linear. Rather then a big wave of torque.

This myth that the K20 is gutless is not true to be honest. Yea its not got the torque of (for example) a 2litre vauxhall engine below say...4k, but thats because its got so much more above 4k in that comparison.
It just means you can't drive lazy and have to be in the right gear at the right time for what you want the car to do. My two Hondas have been the best cars i've owned, and definitely the most capable.
Vtec does work in every gear, it just doesn't engage if you're matching revs for a downshift (so basically only engages under load).

Thing is though, you don't have to be in vtec for normal driving. They aren't gutless out of vtec.
They still make over 100lb/ft around 4krpm, same as pretty much any other decent 2.0 n/a engine. Even under 4k the torque figures against say a c20xe is around the same at the same revs.

Most people who could only afford the pre-face do tend to prefer the pre-face.

They are gutless tho. My old xe Corsa had much better pulling power than the type R. That's the thing p, if you don't thrash them then there pretty pants IMO. Mixed driving and you'll struggle to see over 30mpg which is shit for a 2tr n/a car.
