Might be a thermostat problem after all. Wish I knew things like that. Still might buy another engine anyway.

Changed the thermostat lastnight (ended up being a lot more work than i thought)

Still having problem with the coolant, back to thinking about a new engine

Going to view a different engine tonight, its still in the car and running.

Its a 2.9 12v and has 263cams and the shrick inlet. But i can't afford the inlet but engine will came with the cams.

I know, but involves cutting a bit of the underside of bonnet off, has to be removed to be able to get to spark plugs, its expensive as well

already sounds like you have made your mind up 3cm, you want your mpg, arnt fussed on performance and also sounds like you want the cheapest option so to me sounds like you wana go with option 1

personally, i wouldnt bother with anything more then what you have anyway. the vw 6cyl's are shit performance wise so why would you go for an r32 for example for only 240hp and yet more displacement..doesnt make sense. If i was going to bother taking an engine out and putting something else back in, would be 16v supercharged or 1.8T with a stroker kit init

I'm not after bhp claims or racing people, i like the way the vr6 drives.

The other bonus is the replacement engine is only about 20miles away
