It's pretty much considered best practice to have an abbreviated domain if the main one is fairly long.
As Whittie said, you don't want it to redirect though, you want both domains to show the same site. Your hosting company will help with this, you don't have to do anything.

Why would you say it was better to have the site on both names rather than redirect? Ultimately you see the same thing but the address bar has more letters in it.

I actually showed her that pic later because I thought it was kind of funny.

I spoke with a Welsh guy at a wedding once. After half an hour I unintentionally started talking in a mock version of his dialect. Very strange stuff.
I do the same when I'm in the states. Seem to either start or end each sentence with the word "man" after two days there.
