That indeed it be, Prodrive goodies ftw.

How much power did the standard 2.5L STi make? 'Cus i've just been looking at an article saying the blobeye STi with PPP made 270ish.

My bad, turns out I'd been a prat and misread the article. The blobeye STi type UK didn't get the PPP so was only 262bhp. So yeah 305 with PPP looks reasonable.

Its the people whose cars specs include things like a slightly wider diameter of pipe on a MAF housing

IMO, you should do it properly or not at all. I've only ever bought 100% standard unmolested cars and every "internet owner" car i've been to view has been shit and i soon realise peoples idea of a looked after car is a million miles away from mine.

Also it looks like a pile of chavvy wank, seriously i would feel a proper twat in that car

WTF has that got to do with this car

also the fact of the matter is anyone can mod a car then easily put it back to standard, you can never be 100% certain its been thrashed unless you get it from new or know the previous owner.

the cars are made to be driven hard so it would be even weirder to find one that does not get thrashed, as long as its looked after and gets regular servicing/oil changes, whats the problem? scaremongering as usual.

Not sure what you drive just now mate ?? but do be aware that these things drink and I mean drink petrol, bought a blobeye 2005 wrx last year as being a low mileage driver thought it would not cost that much to run unfortunatly had to sell it after just 4 months due to this very fact, having been a scoobynet member for many years now know a lot off owners that are selling due to not being able to comfortably afford to keep them going on fuel- never mind the £400 road tax etc on the newer cars- after 2006 was it ?? maybe something to think about ??

good luck if you do go ahead with buying one, loved every second off owning it !!

Like John says I've had a few thirsty cars including an Evo and R32 golf lol.

Anyways, the update is the cars sold lol. The search continues. I'll have to think with my head this time tho as the cars going to be a daily driver and rack up a few miles. So I'm gonna look for something pretty new with low miles. This will have to last me at the very least 3 years. The wife's getting a bit fed up of me buying/selling cars every 6 months or so lol.

My thoughts exactly. People only tend to post about these things when they have trouble with them.

As opposed to making a thread to tell everyone your gearbox is fine today you mean?

If it wasn't an issue it wouldn't have even been mentioned in this thread, just the same as issue with subaru engines going pop.

Yup My VXR was fine for 55k miles using an M32 box. No whining noises, no catastrophic failure, nothing.

Comes down to luck of the draw and how you treat the vehicle at the end of the day. The odd bad experience on the internet isn't a reason to not buy a car.

As it happens, I've been following a progress thread about a 2.5 STI and his engine is standard.

The VXR's don't have the torque of the CDTI's which is what kills them.

Agreed, It's not a reason not to buy but you'd be naive not to consider the possibilty of it going wrong based on peoples experiences. You can't ever be totally sure how the cars been treated prior to your ownership.

I know the car in question in this thread is sold but from the problems that have been mentioned, it would put me off buying one.

Not strictly true, the VXR does have the torque to lunch the M32 if you drive like a spanner.

Speaking of M32 issues I've just found this lil article which is a good read.
