Always. Especially on VAG cars as they always become tight without it
+1
This. And usually put a bit round hub bit where wheel sits. Had cars in at work a year old that have wheels off and had to bray they off cause they've been seized on.

Never put them on the bolts, just the hub. Only time I had a problem with wheel boots is when I over tightened one.

Yes without fail.
Nothing worse than a seized on wheel nut.

Putting them on the bolts is to stop the bolt getting stuck into the hub, if i was going to use it on any bolt it would be the locking one. Putting it on the hub face isnt going to stop bolts seizing in the hub it will just create a mess. If your wheel is stuck on the hub just sit in front of it and lightly kick it on the left then right of the tyre until it comes loose again.

Some of the cars ive had in work you would not be able to remove by doing this. The way I have to do it on some cars is put a wheel but a few threads in at the top to stop it from falling out. And stick the 2 foot pry bar on the bottom ball joint and against the wheel and swing off it. In fact a ford ka we had in last year we had to get oxy bottles out to heat the wheel up to get it off
I know that's one extreme case but still. Just a little smear around the centre of the hub works wonders

If you have the wheels off regular for cleaning it makes sense to have a bit on, especially if you are cracking them off by hand.

Depends really, sometimes yes. Most of the time, no.
I've used it on old stuff with knock-offs, also on stufff with shitty threads and on trailers/horseboxes. My Laguna's got steels so I used it on that to make them easier to get off at the road side in the even tof a puncture.
Anything with alloys and good, clean threads, not unless requested by customer.

Yep. Not excessive tho. Got a little brush to brush it into the threads.

Yea i always have. I had dramas getting an alloy off my mrs Tigra when she first got it because the face had oxidised to the hub. I normally put a thin layer on the hub and then dunk the bolts in just to put something on the threads.

Interesting, I never have with clients cars when I have the wheels off - always put a small bit on the hub though. I use a spray on copper grease too - easier to control how much you apply then too!

All the time, just a light smearing round the threads and hub
