I do agree on this a little. They aren't forced to do it but then again its quite selfish if we were to go to full blown war i wouldn't want to it. They have balls.

Of course.

The do exactly the job they want to. What's praise worthy about them having a different set of preferences than me or you?

I don't have any more or less respect for a soldier than I do a mechanic of electrician. And I see no reason I should.

Agreed. They want to do it. They know the risks, and they know the pay.

Saw a program on the tv that said in the future they will be able to make legs that are better than real legs. And they could foresee people cutting off their legs in order to get better ones.

Amazing.

And without our soldiers you would have no freedom, probably be talking German etc.

The armed forces ensure our freedom a safety, protect 99.99999999999percent of people they've never met, I respect Alot, as I do police and firemen.

Going of what you said, firemen deserve no respect for running into a burning building to save some one they've never met.

Moronic statement in my opinion.

Also surely the fact they've chosen to put theirselves in harms way and not been forced too deserves respect :/

It's a comparison that's not even viable.

Can't see the examples of jobs given purposefully putting their selfs in harms way for the safety of others.

You're coming from an angle where it's some kind of personal sacrifice. This isn't people who dream about being lawyers and gardeners but decided, for the good of mankind, to join the force. You're aware of this I guess?

This is people doing a, debatably, necessary job/service that they want to do and have chosen to do.
This is the case for almost any person who has a job.

Like Nath said, I didn't say I have NO respect for soldiers.

Yes, they want too do it, which surely means they deserve more respect for wanting to do it.
I don't want to protect people I don't know!
But I respect them a lot,
My mate in the marines gets a buzz out of it, as did my dad and 4 uncles! Just because they enjoy it and get a buzz doesn't mean they don't deserve more respect than joe blogged working a normal job.

Surely the fact you can die/loose limbs is a potential personal sacrifice... For the safety of others?

They fact they want to, and have chosen to in my opinion deserves more respect! You obviously take everything forgranted that's been fought for over the years.

But also you are allowed to have your own opinion as am I.

Like I said, why is it praise worthy that their preferences are different than yours?

I also highly doubt that they are as much motivated by "saving and protecting the world" as they are about the actual work required.

No, I honestly don't think that's any more awe inspiring.

Do you know any soldiers? I've met quite a few who've seen action. From my experience they care more about shooting big guns and being bad ass than the safety of others.
Again, the job they do is great, I'm sure, but never be mistaken that they WANT to do it and ENJOY to do it.
