And every xe or let that Steve builds has a soft head shortly after he has built it ! I have worked in an engine builders and never heard of a Vauxhall having a soft head ever that's a problem that happens with Rovers because of poor castings !

Isn't that why the porous mod was made? Because the heads kept going soft?

Phillip always seemed like a nice guy to me. He put some new valves in my xe once and a new cam and did it for next to nothing, obviously that was only minor work though.

Surely if you're not handy with an engine they shouldn't be built by yourself and be done by someone who knows what they're doing?

I usually agree with that saying though, just not with engine rebuilds

Yeah I guess but the lad has already said he has built engines in the past...

I once bought an engine on here that had been built by a well known engine guy, was a piece of crap that I ended up having to pull back out

I'm going to rebuild my old VR6 engine and put it back in the car.

Not got a clue what to do yet, but am going to read stuff, buy tools and then do it. Can't be that hard.

Just started taking the head apart. Looks simple when you break each bit down. Will have to use a specialist for certain jobs. But plan to do most of it myself.

I love engine work but to be entirely honest I'd rather pay someone to do it so that (fingers crossed it doesn't) but if it did go wrong I've got something/one to fall back on. Plus then I can get all my porting and re boring and that done at the same time

Something like an xe isn't massively complicated, even a high spec one inst that bad
But it's not something everyone can do.
If your not comfortable doing it don't do it IMO! Find someone local with a good reputation, plenty of people out there
