baza so aside to using poor quality materials, labour rates must either be minimum wage or lots of corners cut to keep time down resulting in a shocking job if you can get full resprays for that sort of money. Can guarantee it will go back to the same old story of different peoples definition of 'mint' / 'decent' etc too.

To me, it was a perfect job. No runs, shiny, glass like mirror finish, done off the car etc. But im no bodyshop guru so i don't know what defies a good job to a bad job.

I think the more expensive the vehicle, the more expensive the quote will be.

ask for the same quote on a poverty spec focus and I guarantee it'll be cheaper than a poverty spec 1 series (assume material costs are the same).

Wouldn't really say that. If its a high end car then yes but a focus 1.4 Zetec is the same as a RS to us. Exactly the same process.

And a full respray for £800. got a bargain of a quality job there. A full respray with decent products is about £400-£500 of materials.

TBH based on the main dealer work I see down here on various marques, I'd say I'm pretty likely to be right! One particular dealer has essentially blacklisted me now due to me rejecting several cars on behalf of clients that have had paintwork done by them

Main dealers are worse IMO. They don't give a shit about you. Where as where I work (family run business) will always look after people.

I've learned that everybody has a decent opinion of "mint" when it comes to paintwork! I see cars on forums bought and described as "tidy" which look dog rough to me, same goes for repair jobs.

I would love to see an 800quid respray.

My respray was "cheap" and was well over double that of an £800 respray

I dread to think what an £800 paint job would be like.

well over double? then it wasnt cheap was it ? where i take mine he is always busy . Can people not get their head around the fact its down to the skill of the painter not the price or hours on the job . You could give a shit painter all the best materials and time in the world and it will still be a shit job . Too many people making out like its a hard job

Takes 5 minutes mate?

It was cheap, a "proper" job would have been double what I paid.

There is a sign on my way home near the army barracks and it says "respray your car from £300"

Its outside a normal house and think he does them on his drive under an argos tent

I had a spoiler painted for £70 and the finish is better than the rest of the car.

I also think location plays the biggest part in the price differences between good paint jobs.
