All 197s have twin exhausts, they are flush with the diffuser so isn't that visible but on the 200 the exhaust is visible and has come chrome detail around the tailpipes

You can't pick up Clio 197's for 3.5k unless they have moon miles or are complete dogs.

There's a few 197s that have to 200 diffuser fitted to it now, i think the 200 rear end looks better than the 197, but then the 197 front end looks better than the 200

I have had two 197's;
2008/08 - 'CUP'. Brand new, forget the price, maybe £15k?
2008/58 - 'Full Fat' + Cup Chassis/Fully loaded. 1 owner, FRSH, Bought at 4 years old for less than £4500. Sold for nearer £7k 3 months later.
Great cars, and contrary to what Oliver has said, the gearboxes are a weak point. Mine went on the red one and cost best part of £700 to fix iirc.

Had your pants down if you paid 700 to fix it, 350 for a new box. Unless of course you had a new clutch and slave at the same time.
Lot of the time people ignore the fact it's gettin hard to select gears and drive them crunching the box to bits rather than just getting a new clutch straight away.

For a track car I'd go for a 172 cup, the 197s are no quicker than 182s. The 172 is quite a bit lighter than a 182 and a lot lighter than a 197/200

No they aren't any quicker in a straight line but they handle far better and stop incredibly well, also far more refined and far better built than the 172s.
Also a lot more grown up.

What's the difference in weight between a 172/182? Different head or inlet manifold (I forget which)? That's about it
197 is about million years ahead interns of build etc and I might mentions safety also! But 1*2 is a traditional s all car. The later ones are huge. Park our 1.2t next to my M3 and it dwarfs it!!

Quite a bit more than that, couple of people have asked if they could use a 172 bottom end to with 197 inlet etc but its not possible. I don't know the full ins and outs.
I do know the Megane engine drops straight in though.

All of the above replaced, and diagnosed by Renault and a specialist.

The 172 is around 80kg lighter, no TSC, ABS, xenons, auto wipers, half leather/alcantara seats etc. I know the 182 has a 4-2-1 manifold with 200 cell cat over the 172. From what I have read the 197/200 has a different inlet system and different cams.
Of course the 197 will be a lot more grown up but in terms of a track car can't go wrong with a 1*2.

182 and trophy and cup didn't have xenons etc. that's going to be the sought after one soon, mark my words.
I'd kill for another 182. Should never ever have sold mine. Was perfect.

The 182 cups didn't have xenons but the main thing it kept over the 172 cup was TCS, ABS and AC so still the extra weight.
I wonder if yours is kicking about on ClioSport, what was the reg Jambo?

I don't get that at all, mine doesn't rattle or squeak the dash is soft touch. Seats are very comfy.

Neither do I Ollie. The soft touch plastics are I think unique in a small car like that? As usually are the equipment levels. If I had a gripe it would be the rotation of the knobs for heating feel a bit cheap. That's it.
Far in advance of a Fiesta/corsa of same age.

Good cars, weak boxes. Cheap to run 28-32mpg. Parts are cheap too.
My mates was terrible on fuel, the 182's were OK but I always thought the 197's were pretty bad.
I would agree with this, my brother struggles to get 27 in his R27. My other brother gets better mpg in his mapped R26.
Also worth out watching for play in the rack as that's common.
Absolutely cracking cars. I love tem to bits.

My remapped 182 is quicker than my mates 197 on track.
Also prefer the 182 to the newer 197. Not sure why but just feels alot nicer to drive/push
