Think the free .1 revision upgrade is in response to Windows 8.1?

This is fucking cool. See which apps are using the most power:

Very useful if you're trying to conserve battery, which I often am, when I bring my laptop to meetings and seminars.

I doubt it to be honest. The updates have been getting cheaper and cheaper over time and probably don't bring in that much revenue in comparison to the other things going on. The 8.1 upgrade is an interesting one. Yes they have given it free to the owners of 8 but they have shafted anyone else with a much increased upgrade fee.

By giving it away free to all users from the last 4/5? years they can try and get a high %age of their user base onto the latest OS. This is better for Apple and the end user.

Can now set up Google Talk in Messages. Might not be new, but just something I've never seen before.

Am I right in thinking that Google Talk works for Android devices like iMessages does for iOS?

Maverics has caused me nothing but a massive headache today.

First and biggest arse kick to me is my 3rd screen now is really slow (using DisplayLink adaptor) turns out Apple need to patch something to make this work properly again so could be waiting months for this, so I'm back to 2 monitors but when you have been using 3 monitors for a year its so frustrating!

2nd issue, OSX mail wiped all my flagged email, about 80 odd

3rd Issue, had to upgrade Parallels to 9.

Well that sounds like a slight annoyance.

Been spot on for me today, tbh.

Love how primary and secondary display act as separate spaces, and how the Dock and menu bar are also on my secondary display.

Replying to iMessages directly from the notification window is nifty, so is starting new iMessages directly from notification center.

I've been updating my calendar to include travel time, which is cool, though it doesn't seem to sync with iOS, which makes it essentially kind of useless.

Tabbed Finder windows is a real time saver for me, so far, as I seem to have 4-5 folders open at all times and previously spent too much time locating the one I need.

Saving TouchID for the next iPad it seems.

My only gripe with the iPad 3 after owning the 2 was the extra weight and thickness so this is a nice upgrade. That said I won't be getting one as the iPad 3's perfectly capable of the small amount things I tend to do on it.

Can see me getting a retina mac pro at some point though.

Why they didn't include this in iOS I'll never know.

In the screen settings window you drag the small menu bar on to the screen you want to set as primary.

Dock shows up by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen.

The white part, drag it across:

Just lookign thru the changes (OSX), looks like most of them are related to people who use their Macs like a work computer... is it a genuine option now for everyday tasks in a big company do you think?

I think iMessages is just trying to be fancy.

Can turn it off in settings, which I promptly did as I didn't want my mate texting me in pink speech bubbles.

Provided you have access to someone who knows how to handle it, definitely.

I work on a Mac in a mostly Windows environment and when I suddenly had issues with our shared Exchange calendars, which looked suspiciously like a server issue, but did not appear on any other workstations. As our IT guy at the time was a self declared "Mac hater" he just shrugged and said "get a PC".

Luckily he got replaced with a guy willing to actually work for his salary, who located the issues on the server and got it fixed.

Unfortunately, I've seen far more of the former behavior than the latter, which imo is the biggest challenge.

In my day-to-day tasks I've never had a single issue working on a Mac.

My boss has recently switched to a MacBook Air and is slowly switching from mostly Windows through parallels to a pure OS X workflow. He's a complete retard when it comes to computers, but is starting to learn shortcuts in his daily tasks on his own as he finds the OS more intuitive.

I've always experienced that non-tech savvy users find that Mac's allow them to "do more" and don't seem as daunting to work with.

Ordered a 13" Retina MBP i7 processor and 16gb of ram. Cannot wait for it to arrive, been waiting to order one since my last macbook bit the dust, or rather the tiled floor the other month.

Yes, I run full office suite.

It hasn't been updated in a few years though, but besides missing support for distribution lists in Outlook I've not encountered any issues at all.

We're in the process of moving all our distribution lists to server side anyway, so we can send to them from phones and tablets.
