So with the 20 year old C16XE lump showing its age and having been thrashed to within an inch of its life by the theves who stole it, I was faced with the dilema .... Rebuild the original engine or put a C20LET in

After a lot of thought I have decided that it would be a shame to not have the eager little 1.6 engine in the GSi that makes it such fun to drive. However this one is past its sell by date.

A phonecall to my local Vauxhall dealer later and I had this:

One factory fresh C16XE ready to drop in

This won't stay standard for long

Thanks for the comments guys, makes the build worthwhile. I know that the body and engine build will be loved by all, but the interior may upset a few diehard GSi fans ..... But I will keep that quiet until it goes in ...

Those brakes!! Wow! How much would they set me back?? Would love a set on my GSi.
If your getting rid of the standard GSi interior I'd be interested in the back bench and drivers seat if in good nick

Brakes came to £1200ish including braided hoses and Ferodo DS2500 pads. There will be a pile of bits left once I finish ... there will be a for sale thread towards the end of Jan.

The brakes were less than the engine, but with the mods I have planned, I figured it would be better to start with a fresh engine, than spending my money on the old engine having it re-built and modified only to run the risk of it blowing up anyway

I plan on keeping this car forever (it owes me far to much to sell anyway)

the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that the rear window and side windows (not in shot - sorry) have no rubbers. I had them bonded back in to give a more modern look

I have also had the badge recess removed from the front bumper, I pick this up at the weekend and will post pics later.

like the way you done the back windows without the rubber seals
