You'll need to make sure you're very short.
Handbrake is in just about the worst place it could be positioned too.

Fucking awful to drive, doesn't matter that they are pretty indestructible or that you wouldn't get stuck as after about a week of driving it you will hate it and leave it in the garage.

Friend of mine has a 98 4.2td amazon. It has so much torque it will pull away from a standstill in any gear with any load yet will still return about 28 mpg.

He clearly has no intention of spending anywhere near 10k. Who in the right mind would spend that on a 2nd car that they only might need for about 2% of the year, if that. Get an L reg Hilux and be done with it Steve

You'll struggle with 5k. You'll be looking at a mid 90's 300tdi tops.
Unless your after something to tinker with then i'd spend about 3500 on something and put 1500 into it.

Wranglers are cool, what's the reliability like with them though? Are you getting one lifted with wheels for that price?

Same 4.0l as the GC IIRC, perfectly reliable, its American and they have to have cars that always start.
Diffs on the GC's can be iffy, but cheap to fix. Probably uses a similar system

Sounds like it won't get used anyway but what's fuel like on something with a massive petrol engine and 4 wheel drive?
Less than 20?
My rav is bad enough and that's got an engine half the size and probably weighs half.
