Cheapest Evo8 on PH is £8k with almost 100k miles? think £8k like you said was more on the mark for a decent one. I'm just not sure they do it for me really, would probs rather have a scooby for that money.
Ah well, cheers for help guys, looks like I'll have to make my mind up if I want to spend more money or not.

have the same problem Brett, albeit a nice problem, i was very close to considering the darkside an getting an M3, i drove one last weekend and i will be shot for this but I could not see what all the fuss was about? certainly not something i would be prepared to pay the running costs for.
So like yourself i am back looking at imprezas, I cannot think of a car for the money which will do it better and for reasonably cheap.
8k would be a nice blob sti, unmolested, scope for a remap and exhaust and you got 350bhp and will run rings around all the other cars mentioned, no brainer to me.
awaiting ///M3 brigade.

Don't get me wrong, I like M3s. Before I got the X5 I went looking at an SMG one and liked it. For me, they're simply not a car to go hammering around in tho, and not to offend anyone, but the E46 shape is kind of done for me.
I love scoobs, everything about them, plus the sound is hard to beat. It's just with having 3 already, thought it might be an opportunity to explore other options. Bang for buck, they're a tough one to beat.
Seems VXRs aren't as well regarded as I thought they might be anyway

thing is a 240bhp VXR is not really that special anymore in my opinion, I would sooner have an R32 over the VXR if you had to choose between the 2, R32 looks and sounds better and has a better interior imo,
Could consider a golf GTI or a Leon K1?
you will regret the 4wd, chuckability and nosie of the impreza though so stop kidding yourself.

Why would a scooby be better then the equivalent evo barshaw?
Surely they will be very similar

I am not saying it is but equivalent subaru is cheaper, can get a lower mileage model and probably cheaper to run? Service interval wise etc.
Not saying it is btw but just thinking an equivalent ages evo of good spec looks to be more?

Exactly that, like for like the Evos cost more and there's no real reason or benefit behind it. There's no doubt they'd perform equally. That scooby exhaust note tho

Brett.. I assume you're not expecting to get £8k for the X5? If you are you will be SERIOUSLY disappointed.
