I still don't believe it. What did Specky hit at Brunters?? Wasn't it something like 181mph?? And that was with over 500bhp.

No that was Danny who hit 181mph
Unsure Speckys top speed runs

At the rpm on the dash yeah that's probably about correct

It was datron timed at Brunters. Not sure there is much room for speculation.

Was he not? I swear it was done more than once, but then it was probably 10years ago now so I could be wrong

174mph in a 300+bhp Corsa is pretty believable. There's zero weight in them so the engine has more than enough power to pull it to that speed. I've seen 170mph bang on in the Leon with 370bhp so the Corsa will have no bother doing the same. Wouldn't fancy doing it tho

Speedo reading means very little, could recalibrate it for the different gearing and it'll tell you anything you want.
30mph at Bruntingthorpe is loads, you'd have to fly the start and leave it quite late to bring it down, its not long at that pace.
Not disputing it, if I was Datron timed then that is case closed. But there's no evidence in this thread of it and it being only 30mph doesn't convince me either. That's lots and lots on a runway.

Tim's was off the dash no professional timing gear.
Danny's 181 in his Tigra WAS clocked with pro timing gear as it was tested the same day as raylands cosworth went for 200mph

So in the real world, more like 160mph at the most.
And how long did it take to get there?? Id bet it was a hell of a lot more than 2 miles. And at what point did it stop pulling so hard then slowly creep up to 170??
It would be the same for the Corsa. It would pull well enough to say 150, then after that it would slowly creep up.
I just don't believe it had enough power to hit the claimed speeds. Especially in 2 miles which would need to include braking, so around 1 odd mile of hard acceleration.

weight has nothing to do with top speed, just takes longer to get there.

Which on a runway has everything to do with speed.

Your dishing out a lot of assumptions here without a single thing to back any of it up, just gong on what you think lol.
I can't really be sure how long it took tbh but it can get to 110mph in 1/4 of a mile so I think its capable of doing the top speed in under 2 miles. I'd like to give it a try anyways. The book top speed is 153mph so with an additional 145bhp over standard then I'd like to think it'll do close to 170mph.
I thought the Corsa in question was around 370bhp as well???

I don't need to back it up, its purely just opinion of what sounds right in my head lol.

I remember this, and the dozens of pages of arguments people had.
But, I also remember Akeemking from Portugal. He spent a lot of time setting up his stack dash, it was stripped, caged, 4 pots etc. Running Evo5 and about 310bhp ish.
He posted a video for a short while of him and a few friends (civic type R with mods, can't remember the other car) racing for miles and miles at full throttle, drafting each other (made a HUGE difference).
164mph, flat out.
The corsa is as areaodynamic as a brick. Thats why the 1.6 corsa done 119mph, and the Tigra with the same engine done 124mph (same as the 1.4 C done 112mph, Tig 117mph).
Above 150mph, its not just about power, it needs to glide through the air, and the Corsa, with an Airdam, its like driving a bus through the air.
Oh, also, F20 box, on 195/45/16 on a NA 2.0 16v, was 142mph calculated. So entirely possible with a long and flat enough road. I never hit it, but was 100-200rpm short of the limiter a few times. Mine weighed as much as a boat though.

.... and you need that power to punch though the air. No gliding involved
Easy to work out speeds if you know the box ratios (6sp), tyres (rolling radius) and rpm.
So... i'll do some geeking

1st gear ratio: 3.57:1
2nd gear ratio: 2.16:1
3rd gear ratio: 1.45:1
4th gear ratio: 1.10:1
5th gear ratio: 0.89:1
6th gear ratio: 0.74:1
Reverse gear ratio: 3.23:1
Final drive ratio: 3.72:1
With 215/35/16 tyres, and standard F28 gears and final drive the car will be doing 165mph at 7000rpm
With 215/40/17 it will do 180mph at 7000rpm

Roughly 7150rpm on what I think he'd be running 205/40/16 gives 173.5mph
So.... looks fairly legit if the RPM is right in top gear

IIRC, there was a European Calibra, that ran something like 500bhp, and had 19" wheels, and it was calculated on the wheels and power it could just hit 200/201mph, but never actually got there. Very old TV feature.
Ian, Tim's wasn't done on the runway, it was on the road, thats why people spat their dummies out as well At Brunters he's have no chance of hitting that speed. Even Reylands 600bhp Cossie, minus whale tale only just done 201mph odd.
Lucky's 250bhp NA hit 147mph if you remember, 100bhp won't give anything like 170+mph. Also, I think a Fiesta broke the 170mph mark, but again that had like 450bhp+.

yup, he'd need to be flat for a long long time to get that speed with sub 400bhp and a corsa.

Booom, quick google on the Calibra.. But I'm sure the feature said it would have needed the Nitrous and full 500bhp to get the 200mph mark, at the limiter.

Also, isn't this Tim's?? (I searched for 172mph Fiesta Bruntingthorpe, and this came up
