also would have been better with the Golf R as list price is around 30k but the spec is apauling - no leather or anything
Either way as aminimum they should have had the golf GTI with DSG as the BMW was auto
Also the golf is around 28k with performance pack I think

tbh, when you compare an ST to the other FWD models, its bloody well priced, just looks like its ram raided Halfords. VXR is a good buy and gets more kit than the Megan, but its lost the good looking edge it had. It used to look sporty without being tacky (same as previous gen ST), but they seem to have lost their way. Megan blatently copied the VXR styling with the exhaust system But taking into account everything, quality, performance, space, handling etc, I'd still go with the Audi or VW.
For such a power monkey, it was interesting how Clarkson failed to mention that the Mercades has another 40bhp on top of the BMW, and also does 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds which utterly destroys the other cars. Doesn't warrant £16k price difference over the Ford though.

Oh, I'll remain a fan of the S3, whilst its still not the "drivers" choice of car, it comes with loads of goods included and you don't need to spec it up too much to have lots of toys. Leather as standard etc.
