Why not get an old ford v8? They made those pretty early

no pics i'm afraid...deleted them all when I sold it.
mmmm pcd adapters could be the way forward, I hadn't thought of that so thanks for mentioning it

I'll stick to the straight 6 I have as it'll still over double the power, the current 1.9 4 cylinder has 65hp and the 3 litre straight 6 has 130hp

I've put a photoshop request in snap day for some exhaust stack ideas up the back of the cab.......any ideas are welcome and if it looks good, I'll get on with it

For the exhaust just stick to a nice clean side exit in front of the rear tyre

See I would stick to the standard wheels, keep them body coloured outer rim and chrome the centre cap, maybe even some white wall tyres to break it up a bit

Something like this

It's a shame it couldn't have been saved as it was, I'm just glad you didn't give up and scrap it completely, at least she is getting some use!

well took the truck to the Hebden bridge car show yesterday....it's going again today....it received a load of attention, at one point there was about 50 people stood round her

I only got one negative comment all day and that was that I shouldn't of painted the chrome work black.

one bloke said it looked like a miniture american tractor unit, with its long bonnet, small cab and long back

photos to follow later in the week.

thanks for all the comments and ideas, keep them coming and some will probably be done over winter

A Hot Rod pick-up Alvis. That's a new one on me Mister Waters.

Lovely bit of work. I can see the dude's point re the de-chromed look though.

Maybe nickel might be a nice compromise between black and chrome.

Side exit sounds nice and clean/subtle for an exhaust solution. Stacks will probably be a little 'too much' unless kept simple and with an understated finish.

I think having the original wheels banded would be more in keeping with the vehicle than alloys of any kind, while giving it that 40's/50's Hot Rod feel that you seem to be aiming for.

What's the score with the first pics where it's really bad and then really clean and original looking in different colours, but in front of the same house?

What Simca did you have btw?

the score with the first pics......

1...the car was 'restored' in the colours of black over cream originally
2...the wife and I didn't like the cream so changed it to black over wine red
3...I hadn't assessed the rot very well during the first restoration so...
4...old body removed and new pick up body built all painted wine red.

so basically, the car has been restored twice due to me not assessing the rot properly during the first restoration.

the simca was a simca 1000...just found these photos on the computer....

when I bought it....

when I sold it....

I like the idea of side exit exhausts so may be one to sort after the engine change

I also like the idea of banding the original wheels but getting the right size tyres could be a nightmare the current tyres are imperial 600 x 16.
