s2000

or rx8, too cheap to pass up on one for a track bin. hot start issues aren't an issue if you just leave it running

With a £5k budget, an RX8 wouldn't even be on my list.

Exactly. £5k would get you a minter with low miles and good history. £2k would get you a good example with low miles and good history.

Can you really get an S2000 these days for £5k? Been looking around myself and if theres any about they will probably be a bit rough around the edges for that price.

S2000 or 3.0i Z4. Both rwd, both 230+ bhp although i imagine the Honda would be more 'racer' whereas the Z4 is the better daily.

6 cylinders sound better than vtec.

Aye, i think if 5k was my budget I'd much prefer to get something that was a bit cleaner, rather than the bottom of the barrel stuff. For an S2k I'd want a budget of around £7k, at least then it will be clean with decent mileage.

For £5k you'd get a pretty decent 350z, Megane 225/R26, TT, Alfa 147 V6, Cooper S. Not driven any of them but I imagine they will be fun and not on their last legs for the budget

Gtfo. 4 cylinders sounding like a wasp buzzing down the road? Nah, not for me.

I have just had a look for S2000s and have come to the same conclusion as you, bottom of the barrel for an S2000 unfortunately

Maybe not I was sure I had seen one around that figure but even the cheapest, high mileage one on PH is a few grand more.

Any chance you could save a bit more? Probably worth it if you REALLY fancy one. I love them, would have to have the hardtop though.

If not, £5k still gets you a lot of car these days, quite surprised to see what you can pick up now.

Hot start issue is a sign of low compression on engine = 2.5k rebuild.

I have a Rx8 2004 231 no hot or cold start issues at all. ( the now haha)

How's the rx8 reliability post rebuild? Is it poor quality OEM parts that gives the engines a deadline or is it fundamental engine desin?

1.5k for a car that MIGHT need a 2.5k rebuild is still a pretty good bang for buck track day car surely!

Hey Mav btw
