quote: This topic certainly polarises peoples views.
The pragmatic (Tories) will quote the highway code, which suggests both lanes should be used and merge at the end.
Lefties suggest that the make / value of the car is relevant and just because a queue has already formed in one lane you should merge at the beginning and it's rude to ever use the other lane.
The Lib Dems aren't sure, suggesting that technically both lanes should be used but courtesy probably trumps the highway code.
Pretty much spot on

I can remember five countries off the top of my head where I've seen this exact same misunderstanding of merging lanes. I'm pretty sure it's a common issue everywhere in the world.

I think it's and agree to disagree subject
If there had been a load of signs before the que saying the lane was closed and the merc see's a cue and an empty lane then he is clearly pushing in.
You quite often see lorry drivers taking up both lanes in these situations.
Maybe I'm scrared from being pushed back in ques from school days

Two different spellings of the word 'queue' and both are incorrect.

Have this everyday over Runcorn bridge
It worse because it's the road design and not because of roadworks
How people cannot work out that the que is so long because people are not using both lanes is beyond me
No matter were you reduce to one lane you will have this whether it's 200 yards or a mile from the issue

That's the thing he is not pushing in just using the road space available - nothing stops you from doing the same

It'a not blocked, it's a merger lane into the mext available lane.
Seriously, retake your driving test if you have an issue with the basic understanding of this. You're making yourself look a bit simple.

just asking, but if you were in the queue and someone fly past then tried to cut in, would you be happy about it and say meh, highway code. or would you go mental?

Depends on what you mean by flying past and cutting in.
As i said before, Merc was going too quick but what he was trying to do was correct, just went the wrong way about it.
If someone came trundling down that road at around 20mph, slowed down, gave fair warning with indicator and some cunt blocked them from merging then yeah, that's out of order.
Would the Renault driver be so brave to do that to a traffic cop who knows the rules of the road? No he wouldn't, because he's a pencil dick cunt with a chip on his shoulder. Probably upset that his wife made him buy some p.o.s mpv

He's not queue jumping though. He is choosing to not sit in a queue.

What the Merc dude Jam, or the caravan dude?
I have very mixed feelings about the whole subject.
Whilst I like to react in a timely fashion and consider other road users and mitigate annoyance/confrontation/frustration on the road, I do try to merge in turn whenever I can. Although I tend to do it as politely and courteously as poss.
(steaming down the inside is risky and will no doubt bait a lot of drivers)

Totally different and in that case, the queue is formed correctly and anyone who pushes in is a wanker. Plus you've also the option to carry on and spin it round by the BP garage and join the other way.
Main problem with Runcorn bridge is people wanting to change lanes the second they see the bridge. Not sure if they can't work out they've got the whole length of it to decide where they're coming off.

In that situation it wouldn't happen because I wouldn't be sitting there like a moany victim waiting for someone to cut in so I can complain to my friends who also misunderstand.

I was the naughty man in the Mercedes today, only I did it at a snail's pace along with another naughty man in a BMW, so it didn't really count.

I watched a polo almost hit the lane closed sign. Seemed as though they only realised at the last second that it was closed, despite 800 yards of warning signs.
A work colleague was infront of me and I had to back off quite considerably to allow this numpty in as I really wasn't sure whether he wanted to change lanes or drive straight through the cones.
