Definitely louder than last season. Interesting that Mercedes appear to be the first running their cars on an actual track. Hope they've upped the power a little, as I'm sure other teams have made power on their units.

lots of shut lines that don't look to great imo, might be the colour but there not as noticeable on other cars.
Its front wing also fell off today

The Mercedes is looking awesome again. Massive very amount of laps put in by Lewis. As seen in the last 2 seasons, reliability is just as important as getting good times on the board.

Watched at little bit of the coverage of testing.
Quite excited to see what Haas, and Manor whilst I'm at it, can do during this season.
Eric Boullier wasn't exactly over the moon when interviewed, perhaps too early to comment further on Honda's development of that engine.
Newey/Horner already looking at mid season upgrades to their engine *yawn*
Hope Ferrari have closed the perceived gap but I fear we may be in for a carbon copy of last season.
Sauber rocked up with last seasons car

Cars appear to be changing for 2017.
Car width will increase from 1800 to 2000mm
Bodywork will increase from 1400 to 1600mm
Redesigned floors increasing downhole
And the good one:
Tyre widths will increase.
Fronts increase from 245 to 305mm.
Rears increase from 325 to 405mm.
Those tyre increases are absolutely massive! Can't wait to see them.

Yes, that too. I remember the halo from testing last year. Looks very strange and I imagine the vertical strut at the front dead centre would surely impact the drivers vision?

Not quite sure how that will work.
20 odd cars on the grid at the same time, someone's bound to get blocked and eliminated.
Wasn't so bad.previously as they'd just do another lap if it wasn't too late, but if you now only have a couple of minutes, one lap is all you'll have.

Apparently not - as the driver focuses past it, it almost disappears from view. A little like a chip/bird crap on your windscreen...

Pat Symonds raised a good point last night on Sky's coverage. FOM have an awful lot of work to do in terms of writing software etc to manage the new proposed qualifying format. They'll need about 100 stewards watching for block moves. Completely impractical and stupid IMO.

Ted's programme was good but really let himself down when he tried to explain why he thought the aerofoil near the floor could be used to try have a flexible floor
There is no way an aerofoil that small would introduce enough pressure and force to affect the floor
Love the exhaust designs on the redbull

I agree, not at all convinced that would produce anywhere enough force to see a meaningful deflection in the floor. For controlling an air flow or for purposes of redirection much more plausible reason for it being there.

It will be to do with ground effect - basically getting downforce for free
Also will mix you the air and guide it through the diffusers

It would likely provide protection from a stray wheel + tyre strike, so is a good thing in my opinion. Only a fully enclosed cockpit would protect against the spring that hit Massa for example, but at least it's a start.
