What are the Torque figures for the CTR and Astra?

Civic's gear ratios (to optimise vtec) means you change into 3rd gear around 60mph hence then 6.4/6.8 (various figures recorded) once your in 3rd gear it really gets going which is why it's a second quicker than the Astra to 100 yet slightly slower to 30 + 60..

Just read on Honda site - 0-60 is 6.4 and 0-62 is 6.8 (3rd gear change)
Checking torque figures..

145lb-ft for Civic - not that impressive but it certainly doesnt make the car slow. Checking astra now..

Hmmm thats lowly. Oh well, whatever it loses in low-down grunt it makes up for in hi-end BHP.

250 Nm for the astra not sure how to work that out?? The CTR is still swift out of the vtec, soon as you hit 5900 rpm its much much quicker

I like the Civic.. because I'm a Honda geek.
But what does the Focus cost? If Honda brought the new Jap spec Integra Type R (you can't get it here) over here, I'd be interested in how it faired against the RS. 220ps... lsd, and the rest of the usual Type R bits and bobs. You can get 1 year old ones import for about 17k. The stripped out version is 14k otr new.
The japanese spec civic has 215ps and an lsd too, and it's available in championship white

ha ha, my corsa starts picking up at about 3500rpm, and keeps pulling hard until about 5000rpm, then it drops off very quickly.Astra is about 185lb/ft.

Oh, and everyone knows it's better to make torque at high revs than low...

Actually its better to have a nice straight torque line all the way through the rev range. My dads ST170 pulls from about 1500rpm, which is very low, and VERY handy at traffic lights.

Around a race track yeah, but for normal round conditions id prefer torque earlier in the rev range.

Exactly Seth. You need something thats gotta be sensible at some times. I would say, go with the RS, its not common like the CTR, and its beautiful to drive. Also, not much out their can beat you on the little twisty backroads!

Well yeah.. the R stands for Racing after all. It's not as if the civic is a slouch in the lower revs... but revving higher means you can either have lower ratios for quicker accelloration, or be able to get higher speeds in lower gears. It seems honda went for the earlier.

I would prefer the RS myself!
Also 1st and 2nd gear on the RS has been restricted because there is too much torque!!
which can be overwritten with a £499 superchip!
EVO got to 60mph in 5.9 as standard!

I'd rather spend 4k on my CTR than buy a Ford. Jap reliability, imagine what you could do with the engine for 4k - Bye bye RST

Comparing a 2.0 NA engine against a 2.0 Turbo engine is silly.

maybe so but aint that silly, both 200 ish bhp hatch cars similar 0-60 times, but yeah imagine the ctr with a turbo bolted on
Friend of mine is thinking about getting a supercharger kit for his ATR the nutter

I'd have none of them.. they do nothing for me. while they are fast and handle very very good the styling sucks. the astra, CTR, FRS and stockers punto GT would be evenish over the 1/4 mile and not much in the in gear times. be down to driver. I would prefer to have the turbo engine though
RS not worth the extra cash IMHO
