They sound like the mirror ive got in my car. It has an LCD screen over the front. When a bright light (car light) shines on it from behind it switches the LCD on so u get a dark haze which stops u from getting dazzled - Just so u dont have to flick the mirror up at night.
Im guesing its similar with number plates.

i saw the LCD numberplate thingn on ebay, but IIRC, it was about £300. No point having it on most of our cars though cos they are quite distinctive!

i think the old cover your number plate in your mums fanny goo (or other household chemical) doesnt work. I remember reading about the device that bums radar guns so they dont read it correctly, though the point is that you have it on all the time, the guy guns you and gets a fucked reading, then you turn it off using secret james bond type switch, by then you have slowed down and he guns you again and gets 30mph instead or 100.

it couldnt be that hard to make a LCD that goes over the plate almost exactly - i mean in australia you can buy LCD glass to go in your house windows so that you dont need curtains (can set it to auto black out to prevent you r house over heating) and this isnt to expensive and that for a whole window - so if anyone actually thought about it and there was a market clearly you could get a LCD panel made up that fits well andworks easily - i mean if you are not trying to actually display a image or whatever than you only need to apply differing voltages to rotate the crystals around to appear black.
I have thouhgt of trying to do this before - but really to come up with a very good and feasable product you would need to invest a bit of money making it a good and pollished product.
