IMO E36s look extremely dated now. Go for something newer.

Old mans car? yeah alright?
Theres not much you meet on the roads on a daily basis that can keep up with my BMW or match it for handling.

The E30 is a classic shape so will never look dated. The E36 on the other hand looks very dated and for some reason always very cluttered and tatty IMO.

I don't use MSN.
The car is basicly standard, just the usual airbox mods for noise and a touch more power.

The airbox has the resonating tube removed and the air feed pipe pulled off, make it nice and loud.
To drive, its alright, suspension could roll less but other than that is got great handling.
Power wise its excellent, by the time you've got to the end of second gear its dealt with most cars. It tears through 3rd just as quick as second and just keeps going. Its never run out of puff on me, just pulls like a train in any gear.

The roll on the suspension is the bit that will annoy you the most. Coming from the RX7 its will feel like a barge!! I have the same feeling after I've driven the MR2 and then drive the BM!!
No reliability problems really, just had her serviced. No problems just some brake pads, had to have a new clutch a few weeks ago though but it had been in there for 60k.
Top speed I've never tried, got 140 once but ran out of road haven't bothered since, I know it goes fast.
Rear end takes some getting used to, it can go if you provoke it in the wet. I'd recommend getting a 328iS as this has an LSD at the back. The 328i doesn't.
