I had a 1.2 corsa for my first car, and i could safely say that if i had the Sport 1.6 first, i probably would have crashed it badly and caused injury to myself and others. I am thankful that my old corsa was not capable of doing high speeds.

i aint read most of this thread, but i didnt think the police wer bothered if u crashed and nobody else was involved. wen i wrote my corsa of speeding, the police came only cos i was blocking the road, he wernt bothered about the speed or anyfin and left it as that.
but that was jst me, i may had been lucky!

I think alot of people should read what you just wrote and really take it in, people on here talking about getting a 1.8 SRi for their first car, just crazy, speed freaks! Dont need anything bigger than a 1.1 for your first
i totaly agree i had a 1.1 renault 5 for my 1st car and if i'd had the car i got now (1.4 SRi 16v) i wreckon i'd have crashed u dont realise what a bad driver are when u first pass your test til a few years later! (lol how old do i sound!!!!!)

i know someone who did something similar, hit a kerb, bounced off a wall and took out one of those big green electricity boxes in the street, it got chucked out of the local court and he has to go to a main court as the local ones maximum penalty is 6 months in jail and they decided this wasnt harsh enough

As long as you passed the breath test, and no1 was injured then you wont get banned.
I wrote off my last two cars, I still have a clean license.
Thats a load of bollox about getting banned if you crash 'x' amount of time after you passed!
Your alive. Learn from your mistakes.
And you will find it VERY hard to get insured on anything!

You will not get banned, i wrote my 205 off the same way as you but in a 60 limit doin 70!
The police will send you a letter saying that they will not take any further action.
It's a big lesson, a mate of mine wrote off his vtr the other month he now has a new one, and is a much better driver.
Get a small engined car next, i had a 1.2 nova for a while to get about in and i learnt alot in it!!

with the insurance:
If you claim that is, the insurance company offer you a sum of money which they think reflects the value of the car if you hadnt totalled it (like how much you might have got for it if you sold it private minus a few hundred), once an engineer has inspected the car. If you havent declared ALL your mods your premium is voided and you get zilch! its normally lower than expected.
The insurance company may also question the fact that your mum is the main driver on a Gsi that is lowered 60mm & has an exhaust etc. Not alot of mums drive cars like that.
You can keep your current insurance premium running and just get insured on another car until the premium runs out. It is when you renew your premium that you feel the hike. When I wrote my corsa off, I still had 10 months remaining, so I just got insured on a new car for 10 month. Then the premium went up by bout 50%.

yea i think driving a small engined for a few years is good, you cant go stupid speeds and stuff, cos you are relatively
inexperienced, im nearly 19 and dont consider myself very road experienced, but i know i can drive properly.
getting a 1.6 for a first car, especially if you didnt buy it is asking for trouble
1. its a 1.6 with plenty of power
2. you didnt buy it, you wont respect the car and its capabilities
this theory is put into practice that all my mates got their cars bought for them, 106 GTi, 1.8 SRi corsa, suzuki swift GTi. These cars are gonna be fcuked by their next service, but they dont give a shit.
They all cane me in my self bought 1.2 8v, but they dont pay a thing, not even for petrol.
oh yea, i asked the guys brother who is going to court, one of the passengers was in a coma for a few days, so thats why hes off to prison
