Nice work. Love seeing updates on this.
Cheers
I wish I had the drive and determination to work on it over winter but its too cold for me outside in my my prefab garage
I much prefer nice warm summer evenings and weekends to crack on with it so progress stalls over winter

Yeah Rich, it is on a classic policy with Footman James, 5k miles a year, commuting cover and my gf is a named driver, went up a bit this year but still pretty cheap at £200.

Car got it's first wash in 6 months this morning and then I went and had my new tyres fitted, sits and drives so much better on the 40 profiles, reminds me of driving my old GSi so much now, love it
Center caps are in my garage...

TBH the plan was to drop it even more but not rushing in to it, drives really well right with zero rubbing and still looks pretty good IMO

Thanks for the comments, the car is pretty clean for it's age and the fact that is an original, unrestored one.
Not mint but good enough for now. Had various new bits and bobs and stuff over the last few months, nothing really interesting though

Quick run down of whats been done over the winter while I am thinking about it...
It's had a new gear gator, I also bought an original tape deck but for whatever reason it wouldn't work so took it back. Upcoming job is to retrieve my spare interior and try to make a single good set of seats out of them...
Exterior wise I had a spare L piece, jacking cover and the rear arch spat painted, originals had seen some stone chips and couldn't be brought back, paid £30 for the paintjob and they have improved the drivers side massively.
New Vs Old (hard to photograph white tbh)
Over the last few months I had it up on axle stands and cleaned up the boot floor and spare wheel well and painted on a few coats of hammerite stone chip, went on really easily and looks the part now, better than a dirty white spare wheel well anyway, looks quite smart when you look underneath now. Would like to do the whole floor pan at some point but it was a massive pain in the arse trying to do it just on axle stands so not sure if this would ever happen. No pictures as it is a messy job so wasn't really wanting to be handling my phone while doing it.
Tried to remove the back box while i was there but it was stuck solid, hoping to have another go shortly and if I can remove it I will be fitting a standard one, hoping to have a nice quiet exhaust but with a drilled airbox for a bit of induction noise.

Did you paint the spare wheel well in white? Good idea that to tidy it up.

No, just did it in black, it's not a show car and white seems like it would require more cleaning and looking after. I'll try and get a picture.

Ah right, cool. I love to see a cleanly painted underside, but I suppose if it were white you'd have to trailor it everywhere lol.

Here is a pic of the rear underside
I imagine cleaning and stone chipping while the car is on a roll over jig where you can stand up and work on it is quite rewarding, lying on my back on the garage floor with the drill above my head cleaning up the rear legs etc was not fun Painting it wasn't a walk in the park either

I would like to do the front end like you have and also remove the rear beam and powder coat it, closer I looked though I can see a few dodgy looking bolts and whatnot so I didn't want to start that now at the start of summer, I want to be out driving it rather than in the garage working on it.
Next job is definitely exhaust.
