Got the engine in more bits today, sump off, water pump off, PAS pump off, oil pickup off, the only thing which defeated me (other than the dark) was the oil filter housing, which I need to get some allen key bits for.
Didn't take any pics, it was pitch black when I'd finished
I should have it totally in bits tomorrow, crank, pistons and rods out

I'm unemployed
Nothing has been expensive really, I think the most expensive thing was the rear lights, which were under £44.
Most of the stuff was bought with money I made selling other stuff on ebay, so it's not really cost me anything

Standard rods and pistons can't take the revs I'd like, and the cams are wrong too.
The cam chain was stretched too, so the head needed removing to sort that.
Oh, and the sump needed replacing because the drain hole is cross threaded.
It was VERY cheap, and I intended to strip it completely down right from the start.

Pistons are out, no scoring on the crank, no wear on the shells either, which is nice (even though I'm replacing them)
Bores are good all the way down and the pistons have no funny marks on them either, so they've not been doing anything odd.
I've nearly got the crank out too, but I need to remove the bottom pulley (which is going to be a nightmare now I've got the engine apart ) then I can wash everything down and have the block machined and get the crank back in with new bearings

And finally, I have pictures of the engine in bits
Here's how I started -
As you can see, the crank was still in.
I had a slight issue with the crank pulley, I couldn't get it off, whatever I tried, so I had to work my way round that by wiggling, tapping with a hammer, more wiggling, then it came out (same way I got the cams out the head )
Crank out. Got the oil pump drive shaft out too, which was quite easy.
Quick pic of one of the pistons -
Pretty good considering the mileage.
I didn't know the KR had oil spray jets, so that's a nice thing to discover.
And a couple of pics of the block, which I can now clean up properly, as it's totally bare.
Now, before I did all this I decided my car wasn't sitting right, so I lowered it.
From this -
To this -
Not only does it look better, it turns in better (I turned the camber bolts round so it has more negative camber, not sure if that's done it) and it's not as bouncey.
Mod of the day TBH.

It's the front which has been lowered BTW, the pics don't show it as well as I thought they did

It's so much better in the flesh too, sits level now, instead of looking like it's taking a shit.

How much will the engine cost to fully rebuild and be fitted?

Shitloads. Pistons and rods will cost £800, then I need cams (£250), throttle bodies, management, bolts, bearings, new sump, block machine work, rebuilt gearbox, limited slip diff, probably more than that.
£3k Maybe, but I'll be doing it over (a long) time.

Spare one, sort of. It's a 16v and the one in the car is 8v.

Not sure what that's got to do with the thread
But yes, I do, when I'm ready to. I do have a reason that I'm currently not working, but I'm not going in to that on here. I'm not just being a lazy cunt
