I reckon he's on his way also (genuinely), why would you shell out that much money for smalling if not (suppose it could be because ferdinands legs have gone but doubt fergie buys into that tbh).

He has got Evans to come in and be the partner with Vidic though if that was the case, and Im certain he could find some back up for those either in his current squad, a youth player or for cheaper than £12m.
I personally think its the biggest sign yet that Vidic is a gonner.

Maybe Smalling is part of the proposed English players rule. Or maybe we've just splashed the cash and taken a huge risk.

Wouldnt make much sense only making £8m from this deal if Vidic left for £20m. Surely if it was to balance the books they wouldnt have bought anybody, or somebody for much less.. Granted when Ronaldo left they bought Valencia but that was a drop in the ocean from what they got for Ronaldo.

If Vidic goes it'll be to Madrid and will be at a price that makes it worthwhile. Dont know if he'll go or not in the summer. Only thing you ever hear is about his wife not being happy but its all paper talk so who knows if its true

You have to factor in that no matter what anyone says, if a player wants to move then they will make it happen.

Thats true. And for that same reason thats why Rooney wont be going anywhere because he doesn't want to.

If he goes for £25m then that'll be a fairly big profit, add to that the Smalling deal will no doubt be a max of £12m depending on a load of things so will no doubt be a small amount upfront. Also got to take in to account wages, Smallings wages compared to Vidic's will be a pittance.

Money talks.
If Barca or Madrid came in with a £10m a year after tax offer, and a big amount for United, then he'll be gone.

Yeah I get that, I was just questioning the money involved.

A £15m profit (before taking in to account wages) would be a huge amount given the interest costs.
Add in to that the sale of Rooney and you've got your next interest payment sorted.

Not saying that. I'm saying surely they would've maximised it better but not spending £12m on somebody nobody knows anything about.

It wont be £12m though, well it will be but only if he becomes great - which makes it a good deal.
It'll no doubt be like the Wallcott deal, something small up front and then the rest split for ages over the length of his contract.
His wages will probably save the club £3 or 4m a year too.

Rio is 31, getting a bit older, by the time he leaves Smalling will have matured, 20 is very young, especially for a centre back. Signing for the future IMO.

Yup, signing for the future fosho, will partner Evans eventually, probably next season when Rio gets injured/banned/coked up again.

Crazy. Although I think he has signed, or at least 99.9 per cent done.
Fuckers, West Ham NEED strikers, Spurs don't, hope he goes there and sits on the bench all season

He does seem to be after most of the pompey squad according to SSN as well.
Think Benni's a good signing Jr? 2 big black guys up front, both of them pretty good with their feet, and both needing to play well to get into international squads can't be bad really...
