Took a trip to Basel on Monday and spotted this odd looking thing, so thought I would post it up for the comp.

My theme is "out of the ordinary" Really odd statue that looks like a dragon, but has a chickens head.

Hard week as no theme means much more scope...So...

All my opinions of course blah no one take anything i say to heart or hunt me down etc

3rd Place: Doug

Really nice, well focused image, well shot technically and nice to look at. Good DOF however I feel the highlights could have been pulled down slightly to give some more detail to Mr Meerkats belly.

2nd Place: Matt

Really vivid colours (HDR Esque), good subject however slightly too distanced away from the camera imo. Great composition and good location choice.

1st Place: Adam

Emotive and well shot with clever lighting and a clear purpose of the image. Would have been nice to see, or infact the case may be not see, the floor where your Mrs is standing. Cant quite tell but you seem ever so slightly out of focus to, not sure if this was intentional however.

Comments about others:

Nema - I just think, although your image has great colours and fantastic silhouette, a tighter crop to remove some of the sky and the tree on the far right would improve the image

Numbers - Not sure of the focal point of the image, too bright at the top and too dark at the bottom, adjusting the levels should sort that out, but still can't see the subject of the image working particularly well (please dont kill me)

smcgsitbhimosxi16v - The image as it stands is really great, however benefits of a grad filter can be seen clearly. A tighter crop to remove the land on the right hand side would have been good to see and possibly even experimenting with fake DOF on the background to make the dam more of a centre piece.

Dave - I really could smash your head against a wall ! I loved the fact you reshot the image, however still left the creases on the sheet and the background . Think you should reshoot one more time with the sheet fully folded out (seen the in the making shot on DA) and then play with the levels to remove any remaining creases. Would have been first if it had been clean Oh...iron may help

VipeR-X - Colours are dull and background stops the bird head thingy being the centre of attention, possibly recomposing the image and adjusting level would have helped.

Please, no one kill me, Adam, get a theme up

Joe, I was doing the judging man

My comment to you would have been the image works, however the background really distracts from the subject. A matt background, or to fit in with the theme, possibly cut outs of numbers etc would have just added a little something.

Yeah I got it straight out that cupboard that the sheet is stuck to and chucked it on the floor Couldn't be bothered with unfolding it more because it means effort folding it back up

I already have my entry for this weeks.

Faces of time and how important the seconds are....

I emphasised the second hands buy colour selecting them. The rest was a slight contrast tweak and a B&W conversion.

Loving the background wood on that shot Doug, makes it look loads better than if it was just on black or something.

Here's mine unless I come up with something better, it's "The changing Face of Britain" (working title ) and it's a new shop they're building.
