it needs repainting anyway, so doesn't matter too much.
cheers matthew.
just went out and had a look and had 1 bloody run in the paint so sanded the whole thing back to plastic and started again. hoping it comes out better this time.

got most of the headlight back together. massive PITA job to do.
it's not screwed together yet, but gives an idea of how it'll look. nice and OEM with a small difference.

got my ebay bargain dremel this morning, didn't waste any time cutting the cover off.
when i was playing about with the dremel, seeing how it worked (never used one before) i bent the mandrel that holds the cutting disc, so had to bodge something up. luckily it held it, else i'd have had some serious injury
glad the missus isn't home as it made quite a mess

sanded the chrome rings back as one of them had paint peeling off and snapped it
this now means i'm going to have to cut one of the headlights on the car open to steal the reflector, chrome ring and screws from.
not ideal.

decided i didn't need to take the car to work tonight, so set about removing the bumper and headlamps:
god damn speedbumps
nice original headlamps, waiting to be chopped up:
i then cut the original headlight up and used a few parts from it (screws and reflector) to make one complete headlamp.
just needs some sealant to bond the casing together now.
It's taken so long just to do these, but it's worth it.

Cheers. Connected them up to the car earlier to check they all work fine, and 1 indicator bulb isn't working, which is rather annoying, but I probably didn't put it in properly.
Will try and get the other side finished tomorrow.

got home from work this morning and went straight to b&q to get some sealant.
good stuff:
then applied it liberally to the casing. i figured it's best to put too much on rather than not enough, as if they mist up i'll have to take the whole front end off again, so i can re-seal them.
i managed to fix the broken indicator also. seems i was a bit too heavy handed when putting them in and snapped the holder. luckily had a spare from the other lights.
