Especially after he went on camera in an interview stating that F1 wasn't suited to satellite transmission. Surely it will harm the sport with it being so heavily dominated by sponsorship? Do you think he's put the price up? The fee for broadcasting the feed was circa £45million a season and then the BBC was spending another £5million on top of that for their coverage apparently, with record viewing numbers and such high quality coverage it seems bizarre that they'd drop out mid-contract

Actually, not entirely mid-contract. I think the current one was 2009-2013 wasn't it?

Hate the way they're talking about it already 'Do you think Sky can take F1 to a new level of coverage' blah blah. Bernie's sold fans down the river again. At least they have said they won't have breaks during the race.

Are there adverts on Sky Sports? Surely if you have to pay for a channel there shouldn't adverts??

Never watched Sky Sports before, but I should have known better after watching Sky 1 with it's 5 min breaks every 15 mins

BBC coverage is fantastic, Sky could only ruin it, they certainly won't be able to better it.

Makes it slightly pointless watching on BBC though when you've missed the other half of the season.

That's bollocks. Jake, EJ, DC and Martin are excellent. Sky will fuck it up.

EJ could easily be removed, he adds nothing but bullshit

Personally the deal sounds very bodged and i don't really understand why Sky didn't take the whole lot? I'm also surprised Channel 5 didn't get it as they appeared really interested and Richard Desmond is good pals with Bernie.
Either way it doesn't really bother me, i'm sure you'll be able to watch it online via Sopcast/Justin.tv etc

All races will be on Sky, BBC will only show 10 live with others being 'highlights'. It's a bit of a buttfuck for people who haven't got Sky, as it works out roughly £60 a race to get it just for the 10 F1 races that won't be shown on BBC.
Alternatively though there will be HD feeds in the rest of Europe so no doubt you could use a motorised dish and get it for free; or just stream it

Dom, won't the rest of feeds in Europe be narrated in the native language, hence being a bit useless most of the time?

Seems that BBC will have full coverage of all races but some time-delayed.....

FFS they did it to keep Wimbledon

Who actually gives a fuck about tennis? Apart from the scotch... but only because that and curling are the only sports they have a chance of glory in

The whisky is a tennis and curling fan? Learn something new every day on the wonderous internet.

There's a hell of a lot of people in the UK like watching Wimbledon, why not question why they're spunking money on crap like the world swimming champs this afternoon which will have a tiny audience in comparison?

Or even read what's fairly widely documented, they did it to save money so they could keep BBC4.

Stupid thing is the BBC is saying this deal will save them £25million. The annual expenditure for BBC1 is £1400million. For such a popular sport decision seems shortsighted.
