The FIA would turn them on and off when Vettell/Schumacher are at the pit entry so no 1 else can win

GP2 crash

Boring race, fell asleep! Had £25 (free bet) on Lewis at 3/1 to win the race (bet on Tuesday), shocking weekend for him and button.

Thought Nico might have been able to nip Webber as he's had some terrible starts but he got an awesome getaway at the start, think he deserved the win this weekend, driving as good if not better than Vettle this year IMO.

They went over that on the BBC F1 Forum, it's all billy bullshit gossip from the teams apparently. Worth watching the 5-10min explanation (right at the end of the show, available on iplayer)

I think Webber knows he'll be lucky to be in a race winning team once he leaves RBR so Ferrari don't need to keep him sweet for anything. They'd prefer extra points in what's looking like a tight championship battle anyday.

I read all the protest rumours came to nothing though, so probably just the media whipping it up as usual.

Race was a snoozefest, even for Monaco standards. Just shows how bad the track is for overtaking when people can trundle round at 1-2seconds off the pace without coming under real threat.

Nice to see Heikki dragging that Caterham around at reasonable pace - he defended the JB undercut fair and square.

JB looks like he's losing it though, shocking weekend from him... in fact, shocking season so far - particularly qualifying.

Looks like said holes were illegal after all and RedBull have been told to remove them.

but the result still stands which is wrong.

good to hear about kubica. i've got an image in my head of him having one of those robot arms and coming back and winning, then teams kicking up a massive fuss over his ''advantage''.

I think the problem with removing the results is that RedBull had already checked and been told its OK.

Its the FIA that have changed their interpretation of the rule so can't really block the past results.

Clear case of the stewards/Whiting not knowing/being too relaxed with the rule book; it shouldn't have been deemed legal in the first place.

Hopefully this weekend will be decent, even if it won't be raining on race day. Saying that, it'll be interesting to see how much running happens in practice tomorrow considering it's suppose to be stormy weather.

The FIA will have to allow the results to remain unchanged because they gave it the OK during scrutineering. It was most probably a very clever workaround/loophole in the regs. Anyone remember the loophole McLaren exposed in 1998 using a KERS system? The FIA soon closed that up and banned it because of the unfair advantage it gave

Bernie Ecclestone has signalled that Formula One could drop its free‑to‑air television coverage on the BBC since the exposure it gets through the pay‑per‑view broadcaster Sky is sufficient on its own. It follows the announcement on Thursday that the rights to broadcast live F1 races in Italy have been sold to Sky Italia in a deal which further reduces the sport's free-to-air coverage.

Well we all knew it was to be expected if PPV got it's claws into it, so it's no surprise. Just a bit of a shame as it'll means a fair chunk of the UK F1 fans won't be able to watch live races.

buttons is all over the place. OK the car might not quite be to his likeing but he still should be able to do something with it.

Its one of the things people have commented about Hamilton - give him a rubbish car and he throws it around and still makes the most of it where as Button if he does not like the car becomes a mid place driver

Awesome race, for once McLaren made the strategy decision instead of just riding it out and responding to other people.

Though I must admit, I thought they'd thrown it away first with the 5sec pitstop then again when I realised that Alonso and Vettel might actually try to one stop.

It was excellent to see Perez and Grosjean on the podium too, really helps Hamiltons WDC campaign and really nails home how different the tyres were when Vettel could pit with (5?) laps remaining and STILL overtake Alonso

Was really nice to see Hamilton on a strategy which required and allowed him to pump in a bunch of purple laps to make up the gaps he was facing. If Pirelli could work it out so that every track has two very closely matched strategies (1 stop vs 2 stop or 2 stop vs 3 stop etc) then we would have some excellent racing without needing such high degredation and other gimmicks such as DRS. Admittantly LH took the places he needed in the DRS zone each time, but only because that was the safest option... he had opportunities at the other non DRS breaking zones which he could have/would have used without the easy/safe DRS option.

It's not very often we see an overtake for the lead in the last 10laps of a GP, and matching the strategies like this would certainly improve the odds of that happening.

Alonso must be really pissed. There was a 1 lap window when he could have come out clear of Hamilton but they missed it.

They should have still pitted when they saw the lap time Hamilton was doing. As soon as they saw him doing 1s a lap quicker they knew it would only get worse and if they had pit at that point they would still have got a 2nd place out of it. There was almost a 30 second swing between Alonso and Hamilton after Hamiltons pits

After the race some of the people were saying it was not fair the way the tires 'fall off the cliff' but I didn't think they really did. They gradually got worse and worse to the point it was stupid to stay out yet they did not pit so got everything they deserved.
Vettel did the right thing. They realised the strategy did not work when Hamilton went past and pitted. That got them a 4th in stead of 5th. A few laps earlier and I think he would have had Perez too.

Best race of the season so far, Montreal is such an awesome track.

Perfect race from Lewis, expected it to be a bore fest when Vettel took off and opened up a 2sec gap within the first few laps, was quite shocked his tyres dropped off before Lewis'. Fantastic race from then on in, wasnt too concerned when Alonso jumped Lewis in the stops so long as he stuck with him until the straight.

Was very concerned when they stayed out and 1 stopped but by the end it was comfortable, Alonso just had nothing left at the end.

Wouldnt be at all surprised to see Perez win a title one day, especially if F1 stays with this current tyre format as he can look after them and stay quick, which is the best trait you could have in F1 right now.

Button...wtf...lol

What Jonny said

The problem with Button is his biggest strength is also his biggest weakness. He can obviously feel exactly what the car is doing, which is good, but it is killing him because he has to get the setup exactly right to be able to drive the thing. It's almost as if he's over-sensitive to what the car is doing, which is why an incorrect setup can hinder him so much. At least Hamilton can make something of it and throw it round in a decent time, even if it's not perfectly set up for that particular track.

Was pleased that Vettel pipped Alonso at the last minute, otherwise Alonso would still be on top
