Ok so STILL no progress.

Its not the pump and not the selector.

So looking possibly to either give up and buy Colins or send it to another garage who can fix it.

They are a good Indy, they have just never worked on SMGI before. They are doing me a favour but I can't carry on much longer without a car. Need this resolving.

It is looking like this is the end of the line, Costs to fix are looking like £1k+ So i think i need to buy Colins

I dont have the full picture, how are they doing you a favour?

It sounds like they do not have the expertise/skill set to fix your issue and they should have stated this from the start rather then trying to wing it.

Anyone else close to you that you could use?

Sounds like it needs looking at somewhere who have experience with it.

Fair enough for them to have ago but its taking far to long.

They are good, they have no experience with the car/system. SMGI IS very rare! Only in production for 2years and not many of them about. The car was not booked in as such they have been working on it here and there but only charging me if they have fixed it. So its just a product of circumstance and the only one i can affrod at the moment. Its in good hands, just frustrating.

bad news. i know dealers are an absolute rip off but surely they would e able to diagnose the issue quicker than it's taken the indy's?

Dealers would be even worse, a lot of them have not even heard of an E36 SMG let alone seen one.

It is Birds or fix it myself by the looks of it.

Give the box a clout with a bit of 4x2, that's what I'd do in your position!

Could you not just try and find a gearbox and fit it? Would be cheaper than trying to find the fault with the current one and fixing that, or could it be something not to do with the box?
