I like how people think buying some unknown, god knows how many owners engine from someone on the internet is the better option than fixing an engine you know.
Probably why most CS cars have problems, everyone seems to buy old engines with some tale about how it was in the boss of vauxhalls account department in 1992, paint the block with hammerite and its all of a sudden a mint engine

I'm glad you like it.
Thanks for the over exaggerated example you have given.

I'd keep the origional engine tbh as matching numbers will make a huge difference to its value in the next 5 years when these cars are worth over £20k.

That's my point tom, if was powerful
Or rate engine id say keep what you have and rebuild.
Since these are common, I'd find a running one and plonk that in until goes bang.

Id strip it and go from there. Its free to strip it and might just be a failed head gasket or something else simple.

Free to strip it? Does your garage make any money? I wouldn't strip a motor for free fuck that I'm not a charity.

Luckily the cars being well looked after by a local garage owned by a close friend, hopefully this weekend we will be working on it and fingers crossed once the head is off we will see a knackered head gasket.
I had look into so many different ideas with the engine, but at the end of the day is a Sport with lots of weight in the back and pointless putting a bigger engine it in.
It still drives like a go-kart, goes fast enough for me to loose my licence and have fun on the roads around the roads where I live

So after a couple hours stripping everything down, the head finally came off and I have to say out of the possible outcomes, I was relieved it was this!!
So, new headset, bolts, gaskets, having the inlet manifold polished, some more Roose hoses and a full service whilst we're at it.

That will be the girlfriends nails, to match her bright orange motor. She tends to work on the cars at the weekends and still has back scratchers like that, oh don't worry....I plan to marry her!!

Whilst the rebuild is slowly under way and the engine is having all new parts, one of the things that let it down before was the inlet manifold.
Now I'm not interested in power gains and upgrading the inlet, but what I was fussed about was making it look a bit tidier under the hood.
So this happened..
A week in the masterful hands of Bim at Pugz Polishing and it looks like this!!

Love this car by the way, glad it'll be an easy fix and you stuck with the sport engine.
