I got the drivers seat out and he immediately said "Get the passenger seat out, I'll get the hoover"

Absolutely not, which makes that McMeal at least 8 months old

I've had rear bench out a few times for suspension etc, found a happy meal toy under it first time round - which probably explains the rest of my findings
Doesn't beat this find though...
On to today...
Gave the car a quick wash and dry, then decided to tackle my spelling challenge and rebadge the boot. The closest I could get to any kind of official size-guide was a drawing on ScoobyNet which showed 40mm gaps between each letter. I studied many a photograph and decided to set my baseline to be level with the top of the circular parts of the rear light clusters.
I marked this line with some fishing line:
In hindsight, braid would have been better - as the mono stretches quite a lot. Made it difficult to get completely straight.
Next up was tape, I'd use this for marking down my measurements:
With the centre line marked, I then counted out my 40mm spaces. 40mm for each letter and 40mm for each space, the 'A' was slightly wider than 40mm though all other digits were spot on.
10 nervous but steady handed minutes later:
I'm pretty happy with it, if I stare at it long enough I think that it's not all lined up correctly etc - but I've measured the distance between letters, distance between the 'S' and the bottom of the tailgate which matches the distance between the second 'U' and the bottom of the tailgate, etc - it all adds up.
I much prefer the look this way, I've decided.
Finally, needed to treat a little wound inflicted to the car yesterday with seat removal:
I removed the arm-rest cover and took it inside. Blasted it with hot air from a hairdryer for about 20mins then gave it a good rub. I'm sure I read this somewhere, that heat could help mask an interior scratch..
Before:
After:
With the naked eye it's even more hidden than it shows in the picture, perhaps another hairdryer session will improve it - but I'll keep an eye out for a spare part on forums etc

Each letter on that first pic look slightly wonky to each other
The S and U look higher than the rest
The R look like its twisted down to the right
But I think that's just because of the shiny reflection

I keep looking at the photographs and seeing the second U as being higher than the others, but then I toddle outside with my ruler and they're all in line
I'm pretty convinced they're straight and in line, but I've stared at them for hours today - so perhaps a fresh opinion should not be taken lightly I'll sleep on it and see how they look tomorrow.
Fair comments on the debadged preference, I just felt it looked too bare, it looked as if the back of the car had a fat top lip without the badges

Sit a spirit level on top of them, see if they have any gaps. I do genuinely think it's just an illiusion with it being so damn shiny
I prefer with badges btw. Not many cars I think that with

Haha I'm sure you have a delicate touch to not sit it against the paint
Infact don't check it with a spirit level. You will find it being half a mil out and take them off for not being perfect

Glad you decided to amp them before wasting money on under achieving components. Looks like a decent job on the install as well.

Much better with badges. Apart from the u at the end, they look perfect.

I didn't think it was possible, but we don't have a single ruler in the house...
In absence of something proper, I checked the junk mail pile and found a straightish looking letter.
Note that the little girl and text on the envelope symbolises how I've felt about this badge episode...
Hardly scientific, but with a reference point it's put my mind at rest
