I've kept my old system to swap for MOT's, working in a garage means I'll have a bit of an advantage though as I'll do everything it needs then put it through the once

To be honest, they arent as bad as people say they are. I've had less problems with this 106 (touch wood) than I have with any other car, my first XSI was the same. If you keep on top of it then it will be fine. Chris seems to have bad luck with his though so much fun for so little money, the 8v's are fun after a few choice mods but the 16v XSI's are brilliant, a 16v conversion is on the cards for me next year once everything else is sorted.

How much do they say you need to budget for for the conversion? (brakes, mounts, engine, box etc etc)

To be honest I'm not sure, engines arent that expensive. Maybe around £600, give or take a little.

Cheaper and faster then an XE!

I wouldn't say faster than an xe, but as qucik as standard in an XSI, then you add breathing mods and that together with a better suspension setup equals a better car, you wouldn't beleive how well these handle.

So what power would you be looking at with new inlet and exhaust manifolds, de-cat back exhaust, cams and a good skim?

As Danny said, it won't be faster in standard form. And tbh, even with about 130-140 brake there won't be much in it, til about 120+ when the XE has more puff unless the XSi is stripped!. My stripped to the hills 16v would easily stay with one til 90+.

They can be bad for drivetrain in general, shafts, bearings, boxes etc.
Back axle bearings
Few other bits and bobs too, nothing that can be sorted cheaply though. Good to have spares handy, I have a new clutch and 2 gearboxes spare
16v conversion you need to be pretty mechanically/electrical minded. You can buy the modified looms/engine mount, but its not cheap. If you have the know-how, and manage to find a cheap conversion car, it can be done for less than £500 easily.
I got a donor VTS for mine, £300, got nearly everything I needed from it.

I would never buy a converted one again. I did my yellow one myself, so knew what was done to convert it. The blue one was very badly bodged, Ive had to put a lot of time into getting it right. You could pick up a 1.4 XSI for about £500, get an engine and take your time over it, run about in the sport untill its finished, then sell the sport

Door cards stereo and glovebox blank turned up today, very pleased with them, they cost £100 delivered (brand new) which is a bargain imo. Haven't had chance to do anything on the car yet, I can't fit the rears until I have harnesses and I can't fit the fronts until my dad visits and brings the manual window set up and mirrors with him rolls of grip tape in the picture aswell.
Also excuse one of my filthy work trainers in the picture
