autocar did a group test of 25 hot hatches, including type r and 172 cup irrespectively which came first and 2nd, vts 3rd, 106 gti 4th, other cars included st170 foci, mg zr 160, astra gsi turbo, 1.4 caterham! smart car and others. the french pairing did fcuking well, being the 106/sax and 172 all cost under 13k!

yes so it'll handle ace, be canny fast, and be better than 99% of VX's
Thats quite a bold statment to make. It can be better in your opinion, but there are far more vauxhalls i'd own with the current range than any Citreon or Pugs.
VX220/Turbo
Corsa GSi (if its ever released)
AStra Turbo
Astra Convertable 2.2
Astra Coupe Turbo/888
Vectra 3.2 V6 (not to everyones taste, but in the looks dept Vaux have tried to gone prestige)
Zaferia GSi
calibra 4x4 2.0l Turbo
cavalier " " " " "
Lotus Carlton
Calrton GSI

I'm getting tempted to sell the corsa and buy a Pug 106 Gti... I always used to like em when I was looking at cars before I even learnt to drive - but for some weird reason, now aday's they look too small, with their small wheels etc? hmm...
I dunno - in some ways, I'd like to completely kit out my car so I can know that feeling of having a sorted car - but it'll be slow as hell and 2.0 16v = fast but poor handling... agrh!
decisions decisions... not that I could afford either at this current moment in time and if I goto uni I bet I'm forced to sell all cars - LAME

Think its a bit off topic like but think French is in, everyone seems to be buying them lately, think my next car will be French but quite a lot of french sporty hatches to choose from

Not if your prepared to pay £500 odd for a good set of coilovers. Corsa can handle well even with a 2.0.
Lucky B used to do hillclimbing in his 2.1!!!

ok £14600, but i would seriously consider buying one. I think they look great, they handle superbly, and they are pretty damn fast. In my opinion, its one of the all time great french hot hatches, and it doesnt matter at all to me that its French. The Renaults are built very well indeed, hence their very high NCAP ratings for every one of their new cars year after year. The proof is in the figures.

anyway, putting aside daimo's and Sootys petty argument which has filled most of my thread, with an extra 10bhp to play with, this Clio is aiming to be a CTR beater right? What sort of performance figures will it have?

No the ZX16v cars were not the volcane models, they were 2.0 16v`s and just badged as 16v. The volcanes were the 2.0 8v and 1.9 8v models. The 16v had the S16 engine in which produced 155bhp. I used to have one too, decent handling and really powerful brakes. Dont underestimate these cars if you ever see one.

No M8 it was the 16valve model, the one with the bodykit, the same engine as the 306 S16. I'd put a pic up of one but they are as rare as rockin horse shit.

Too right bout the brakes m8, I nearly went through the windscreen when I first got my car you just need to touch them and it on its nose. I'd have another one in a second.
