OK guys right...

HELPER SPRINGS...

These make NO difference to the performance. They are purely as some have said to stop their being a gap between the top cup and MAIN spring when you jack the car up in the air or if you are so lucky to jump the car.

If your car does this its an MOT failiure (if they spot it). Therefore removing should make no difference to ride or performance, unless you jump the car clean in the air and unseat the springs which is VERY rare unless you drive like Mr Martin.

Its clear what the problem is - you need to raise the bottom spring seat to get clearance of a et45 7" wide wheel. Couple of options...

1) remove helper springs all together.

2) get as low a poundage helper spring as possible which is slightly shoter than the std FK helpers in uncompressed length (about £10-£15 per spring)

3) get a combo of shorter MAIN springs and get as long a HELPER SPRING as possible in the lowest poundage you can find.

I could work out for people the BEST soloution if someone could provide me with...

Length of FK main spring (uncompressed).
Length of FK helper spring (uncompressed).
And if you raise the lower spring platform to a height where it does not catch the tyre I need the distance between lower spring platform and topcup when the damper is FULLY extended.

TBH the easiest solution is to remove the helper spring/double adaptor ring and wind the lower spring platform up to you correct drop (this should allow you enough clearance).

As posted in a link i dont have the Fk helper spring i have a different helper spring and the ride is no different that i notice and the handling is great!


With the coilovers you have mate i think you are gonna have problems, wither big spacers and IMO i think your gonna need hefty 8mm+ ones! The only option is different springs or higher car!

I once sold a set of the AK coilovers and the guy had 15" ET40's and they went on fine, so you'll probably need at least 10mm spacers to clear your wheels.

I have those same small helper springs i haven't fitted the kit yet though!! Did you manage to get the double adaptor to work with the small helpers or are you running without it?

Actually a coilover is always a coilover no mater what you were to do unless you were to take the pring off or empty the oil from the damper. 'Coilover' stands for 'Coil spring over oil damper' so infact even if you were to lock off the smaller spring you still have a coilover shock....

Hmmmm. I think im really put off by these now, so much hassle, are the benefits really worth all the hassle? Im not that technically minded, sure i can fit normal shox and springs ,but this sounds like a nightmare, if i were to have to "fiddle" with them, that means infinate trips to the garage and means beaucoup de cash.

Bilstein or koni shox n springs me thinks

i can see me having problems with 17" et45.
so if i have to have spacers will this sacrifice the ride quality? or will the wheels basically just poke out of the arches a little further?

The handling will deteriorate the more you space the wheels out...

With 7.5J wheels you'll probably need spacers too.

prob need spacers, 7.5 width and ET48 is gonna be well in, i can see it fouling bad, prob need spacers and helper!

Its not that basd, mine only took one trip and i dont need spacers.

Get the guy that fitted mine to do it like i said as hes done mine and knows about them now

right lads, with 7 x 17" et 45 dare v2's what do you think i will need to actually get these fuckers to fit?
i also just have standard arches, cheers

4 stud 4x100 et45 (ideal corsa fit) 17" with 205/40/17's " will cheekycorsas method allow these to fit?

right peeps, do i go the cheekycorsa route and get new very soft springs from BAT OR do i pull out of the highsport deal?
i'm very confuzzled at the moment and think with the dares i will have no end of problems

BAT dont have the smaller springs and if they did they wont sell them to you cos u didnt buy yer coilovers there....

toby in rimstyle has a set of these smaller helper springs for me but i dont want them so u can take them off him....

yoyu will deffo get the wheels to fit.. the problem is will the car be low enough... this will depend of the wheels and tyres u have.....
