Go Golf with a VAg 1.8T in it, tunning potential is huge!

Bailey (or pace i forget) have just released a front mounted intercooler for the 1.8T, also look into the revo software for the chip, extra 50bhp just on chip. Remove the cat, get a free flow exhaust, and a decent filter (NOT OIL BASED!!!) and your laughing chap!

Remember no dump valve, the turbos are recyculating so you'd lose boost with a valve

PS earlier A4/A3 engines around N-reg have less sensors etc

nope only if oil based!!

yeah get a proper stainless steel one there ok Had my induction kit on my 1.8T A4 for a year with no problems. most people fit K&N's etc which are oil based, so the oil clogs the AFM up.

lucky then as On 1.8t becuas ethe turbo is'nt 100% oil sealed there is a small amoun tof oil vapour in the induction pipes, when the engine is turned off the oil in the induction pipes settles on the airmass metre wire, after a periode of time the oil on the air mass metre wipre picks up shit, which in turn fucks it

induction kit of what ever ype will just speed the process up, as they are more liley to let more crap through as they let the engine breath more

also on earlier 1.8T the amplifier for the coil packs is air cooled, when a induction kit is fitted, it removes the cooler for this which runs off the airbox, so it overheats

I've been looking on edition38, but anyone know where I can read up about a Mk1/Mk2 engine conversion to a 1.8 20v turbo?

Also, are VR6 engines easy to fit in said cars?

Just to clear up a few points...

Yup, there are lots of different versions of the 1.8T, the best being the BAM 225 engine, as found in TT's, LCRs & S3s. These have stronger internals, a bigger turbo as standard etc. A remap will give you 285ish bhp.

The earlier engines are easier to do the conversions as they aren't Drive-by-wire like the newer ones, and have less sensors etc.

A cotton based induction kit won't harm your MAF, oil based ones will. They are sensitive though, usually only when you're running higher boost, more air passing over etc.

The pipe that is fitted to the airbox as standard is for the aux air pump, and is still used with an induction kit, you just have a tiny filter on the end of it. It still functions properly. Oh, and coilpacks are a common fault on earlier engines but they're not that expensive and shudnt go again if replaced.

All engines are good for 350+ on standard internals, running an IHI turbo. I know of plenty of these in the UK that are reliable. After that, you can go 400+, just depends how deep your pockets are!
