I thought the brakes were the worst part .
The lift off oversteer can catch you out but once you get used to it and learn not to lift off its fine and they handle amazingly.

The gearbox was fine in mine, maybe a bit loose but felt ok.My interior never felt cheat it was mint grey alcantara and black leather with white dials etc..mind you i had a Y reg.The handling was never that good either it snapped back which is scary
The best thing about it was the brakes..oh and keeping up with a Focus RS from 20 to 70 in 2nd and 3rd gear
3rd gear was fantastic on the gti I miss mine
great cars, simple breathing mods saw mine hit 148 bhp, they do fall apart quite easily though

Not so sure on these now from neg feedback
Want to hear more from owners like
from my experience i had no problems with it apart from gearbox, cracking motor, you dont buy one for the build quality you buy one for its nippyness and agility
they arent as unreliable as people make out
you didnt have that many problems with it but look at the state it was in after you sold it

Ive got a series 1 rallye just now.. Reliability isnt that great, i've replaced suspension bushes, driveshafts etc, and in the process of rebuilding a rear axle with gti discs etc to put on due to worn axle bearings..
Pedals are easy to get used to, i'm a size 12 and dont have any problems..
Lift off oversteer is ace on them and pretty easy to control, doesn't really catch you out to much when your used to it...

The owners will generally give views
the Ex owners will generally talk about reliabilty.

Not really bothered on looks etc tbh , as I'd rather concentrate on power.
Reliability is one Imthinking about most

mine always started first time and never broke down The only thing you might find is that it idles a wee bit irratically....
I had to replace:
driveshaft
ABS sensor
clutch
general wear and tear i suppose, plus I kicked the fcuk out of it at crail on many occassions

it was a minted car
My first insurance company gave me a year NCB free to encourage me to start my policy with them. So I insured the gti with 2 years NCB even though I had been driving a year
I have a pass plus aswell which admiral recognises, car was kept in the garage too

It's group 13 IIRC. I suppose if you want it bad enough you'll pay £1600 a year
